Minutes of the City Council of Laurel

The city Council of the pity of Laurel met in regular session in tl~ Council charr~bers and was called to order by Mayor ~~.~homson at 7:30 ~Ioloek
P. M. Tuesday, August 21, 1951.
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered ~x~ esent:
Freebury Scott Feusrbacher McManus
McCormick Tubman
Rodgers
The minutes of the last rieeting were r ead. It was moved ~y Mcl~ianus and
seconded by Scott, the minutes be approved. The mot~.on Carrie d.
Mr. Wayne E. i'rlahan a~~peared before the Council to lx esent a petition for
the construction of sidewalk and curb confarrning to ~rdinar~ce No. 428. It was
moved by Scott and seconded by '1'ubman that the petlti.on be accepted. The motion
carried.
147r. Philip Nolan a ppeared bo~ore the Council to ask ~ rrlission to erect a woven u~~ire ornarnenta]. fence around his property. It was rlov~d by Freeburg ar3d
seconded by IvIcMaZUS that permission be granted. The motion carried.
Per. NTerritt ~'~liiliams appeared before the council ~n ~~~a~~.~ to information
relative to the installation of a storm sewer to drain thewest corner of lst
_ street and `Second Avenue. It was moved ~~y T~cManus and s econc~ed by McCormick
that a recommendation be presarited by the street ~o?~ittee before the next meeting. Tile motion carried.
The Health Officers report for the month of July was read.
.fin application fora building permit by yy. L. Kirsch to build a 16x22 fratns
garage, on concrete foundation, of new and used riaterials, on Lots 7 & 8, Block 14, Yellowstone ''ubdvision, at an a~~proximate cost of X150 was presented. It
was moved by ~''euerbacher and seconded by Mc Manus th€~t the permit be granted. The
motion carried.
An application f'or a renetival of a building permit by ~+alter ln~;raham to
build a 28x36 frame house from new and used materials, on concrete foundation with basement., on Lots 3 & L~., Block 20, Laurel East Yellowstone Subdvision,
at an approximate cost of ~b,000 was presented. It r~vas moved by i~ euerbacher
and seconded by ~'rf'eebury the renewal be granted. The motion Carrie d.
An a~~plication for a building permit by Jake Franks to build a 26x38 frame
house, on concrete foundation, of new materials on Lots 5 6 & 7, Block 26, E.
Yellowstone Subdvision at an a~~proxirxa to cost of X6,000, was presented. It was moved by T.TcTJlanus and seconded by t{od~ers that the pormit be granted. The mot ion
carried.
~n application for a building permit by tiY. DQCrarmo to build an outside
entrance to the basement, to be constructed of wood covering on converete base,
from new materials, on Lot 1 & 2, Block 19, Laurel ~iei~;hts Subdivision, at an approximate cost of ~35. It was moved by Rodgers and seconded by ~'~resbury treat
the permit be granted. The motion carried.
A latter of r equest from Lena Stouffer u~as read, to extend the pity
Water line across Highway No. 10, at the end of 8th Avenue. It eras moved by
Scott and seconded by rreebur~~ that the matter be referred to the water "ommittee.
The motion carried.
A petition from the pra~perty owners on the West Highway far an 8`'~ Sewer to extend from Bloek 7, Youngs Subdivision was read. It was moved by Scott and
seconded by McManus that the rrratter be referred to the Sewer Committee. The
motion carried.
g letter was r ead from the Board oi' ~xailroad ~onmissioners asking f'or
permission to use the ~'ouncil Chambers on ''p~btember 11th. It was moved by
McManus and seconded by ~'cott i,rat permission be granted. The motion carried.
A bill was presented from Erwin C. chock for street oiling. It was moved
by Freeburg end seconded by r~4cT~2anus to allow the bill. The motion carried.
The City Clerk's report for the month of July uuas read. Tt was moved by
Feuerbacher and seconded by I~1cl~IAnus to accept the rex~ort. The motion carried.

a~ain~t property herein described for the construction and installation of a
4-inch water Main to connect with line on Seventh Street and Second Avenue.,

v This being the time for the opening of bids for special Improvement District No, 73, the actin Clerk was instructed ~ open and read all bids. Une bid
in the amount of23,199.00, to bear interest at b~, from the Yellowstone Bank,
with additional re-purchase rider, was received. It was moved by ~'cott and
seconded by ~todgers that the bid of the Yellov~stone ~3€~nk be accepted. The
motion carried.
A report was made by the street corlmittee on the condition of City of
Laurel sidewalks.
It was moved end secondeduve do now adjourn. The motion carried.
