~rdinanc~ No. 421, establishing a license tax on punch boards, and simile
devices was presented for final reading. It was moved by McM~us and seconded by
Rodgers that Ordinance No. 1.21 be passed on fir~.l reading. Upon roll call a1.1
aldermen present voted "aye' and said ordinance was declared finally passed and approved.

RESOLUTION N0. 738
A~eaolution No. 738, a ~~esolution protesting the construction of a new Highway extending rom the bride across the Yello~rs~one~Hi~er south of La~a.rel,
to the overpass over the Northern Pacific ~ail~ray Corm~any t racks east of Laurel.
That YVHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the City officials
of the pity of 1~aursl, Yellowstone bounty, Montana, that there is now in progress
a survey by the Montana Highway Commission making sa.3ocation fora nevu _Federal Aid State Ki~;hway;
AND ~ltHEREAS, the maid City officials have made an inspection Qf the
proposed nevu road, and belie ve that its construction would be detrimental to the
best interests of the pity, and its inhabitants;,
NO~V, THEREFORE, BE IT RESO~'VEDBY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY 4F LAUl~~L ,

1. That it traverses valuable a~r~cultural land, ~ and~_,the expense of acquiring a right-of-way and the building of the said highwaq Neill be too eostly«
2.~ Trat the construction of a new highway should not be planned and
carried out, when the funds are sv badly needed tc~ ~~pair highways already
constructed.

That the traffic in and out ~of Laurel over highways N~. 310 €~nd No. ~2
is not of such magnitude as to r equi~3e traffic to be divided ~t this time.
5. ~~h~,t the traffic on the Federal and Mate highways through the City
of Laurel is not now congested in any why .
6. That the City Council. of said City has passed an Ordinance providing
for longitudinal parking of automobiles on both sides oP Main Street, and Highway
No. 10, resulting in the traffic lane on Alain street being widened so as to ~cc-
omodate a four-lane `li~hway through-out the length of Main street in Laurel.
7• Tl~tt the public and the merchants in particular, feel that it is absolutely necessary to main~~in fain street in the City and toy diversion of the
traffic therefrom, would work a hardship on the Merchants and their customer
alike .
It was -moved by Mc Manus and seconded by Romee that Resolution No. 738
be passed« Upon roll c€~11 all aldermen prQSen~ voted ~'~ye" and said Resolution
was passed.

Freeburg that Ordnance No. 423 be passed on first reading. Upon roll call ail
aldermen present voted Faye" and said ordinance was declared passed.
The bond of the Librarian was presented. The bond was examined by the
City Attorney, and approved by him. St w as moved by ~`reebury and seconded by
Tubman the bond be approved. The motion carried.
The resignation of 23ynold Frank from the ~'~irs vepartment vuas presented.
It was moved by Tubman and seconded by ~'euerbacher the resignation be accepted.
The motion e~rried.
The changes in the By-Laws of the ~'~ire Department were read. It was moved by Tubman and seconded by ~''euert~acher the changes~bs approved. The
motion carried.
Tt was movad by Rodgers and seccanded by McManus that the City Treasurer
be authorized to purchase Revenue Starips to be placed on punch boards, and
similar devices. The motion carried.
The requost of '~hompson Dairy of Billing, to sell milk in the City of
T,aurel was presented to the CQUncil. No action was taken on this matter.

~t was moved by Freeburg and seconded by r'omee that the petition bar property owners on N orth Second Avenue be ar~proved. Tho mod ion carr3.ed.
It wasmoved by Tubman and seconded by xodgers that the pity Employees
be given a pay raise in the amount of 12~ per hour. The motion carried.
