URBAN RENEWAL COMMITTEE
February 23, 2009

Members present: Shirley McDermott, Dirk Frickel, Bill Kampfer, Daniel Klein

Topics discussed:
Look at Laurel property ownership annually to have them involved and listen to
their needs. Look at ways to get property owners involved.
Current budget $250,000 with $150,000 going to sewer and street repair for 12
years.
Committee to find out what community wants and feels it needs.
Committee to find out what the city wants.
Tax District to capture income - to promote growth. Only 20-30 in state.
Guidelines needed: is there a current urban renewal plan? Can we amend the size
and/or geography?
Loans and grants must be spelled out in guidelines.
Suggestions:
1. bring in business and property owners frequently
2. have an agenda from committee for busnisses
3. infra structure improvements looked at first
4. go back to look at street scape
Can money be used to tear down unusable buildings?
Have a joint meeting with Laural Alive
Have a walking tour at next meeting March 2, 2009
