Darrell gave the committee an update on progress being
made on converting an old beer truck into a support unit. He
said the work is almost complete. The work when complete will
cost between 12 to 15 thousand compared to the 50 thousand that
Becker Fire Service had wanted earlier. The old support unit
a 74 Ford has been sold to Cenex for their fire department.
Darrell mentioned that there is a lot of construction going
on within the fire districts and the LUFSA service areas. Come
negotiation time for new fire contracts, he said, that we need
to give a hard look at the rates we will charge in light of
the increased valuation to these areas.
The chief gave an overview of the expanded jurisdictional
area that the City of Laurel is seeking for building and fire
code enforcement. He stated that the State is responsible in
outlying areas for code enforcement. But with the adverse public
hearing that was held the decision when received by the City
will be doubtful. He indicated that if this fails that we
will probably lose Larry McCann as fire inspector due to the
fact that he will have to seek employment elsewhere.
Discussion was held concerning acquiring the Arden property
adjacent to the fire hall. Darrell indicated that this
acquisition is necessary to build a facility to house new
equipment that has been acquired by the department. Ron Marshall
and Gay Easton said they would check with the city attorney
about getting a "First Right of Denial" so that we can purchase
the property.
Meeting adjourned at 8:05 P.M.
