The City Council of the City of '~aurel, met in regular session in the Couneil
Chambers. and was. ..c,alled to order by j~iayor Thomsoa~ at 7:30 a~aloak p. m. 'Tuesday
April 2nd, 1957
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present

The minutes o.i the list meeting were read. Tt was moved by Williams and seconded by Leuthold the m~.nutes be approved. 1.'he mota.on ca~~ried.
delegation of students of the `senior Mass, appeared before the Coune it
requesting porm~ss~on from the Council to stage a regular glean-up grogram in the Cit
l~neyT stated chat they wanted to prove that all juveniles worn not delinquents, and
had the thought that they might be able to establish suok~ a custom for the futdtre classes to follow. They uvould Like to clean Main Street, the parking lots in the
City, and the City parks. Also the alloys, and put rubbish where it can be p~.cked up
readily by Cit,~ employees ana vehicles :end the farm veh~.cles that they mi.~ht be
able to get to uae. T~ was moved by Parker and seconded by;:Ebersviller that the
May~~ e~.esignatec±a committee to help het the program started as soon as possible, and
r- to request permission from the ~chool Board ~o allovu the students to part~eipate in
such a clean-up. `rhe motion carried.
The l~~ayor thereupon appointed the following members to such a committee
Chairman of the street Co~;~'nitteo' dodgers; Chairman of the Police Committee,
Parker, Chairman of the tiVater Committee, Scott; and chairman of the Purchasing
Committee, Leuthold.
Mr. Hobert Fry a~~eared before tine count i1 in regard to bu ~ldin~ a carport on
the south side of his present house. iie sated that it would o ome within 2-feet of
the property line to the south, and the ordinance states that there ghall be 5-feet t
the edge of 'the property line. -fit was moved by ~bersviller and seeorided by Williams
that the matter be referred t o the Aldermen in the VUa:~~d and the City Engineer, with authority to act, it' 1t2r. Fry will get written consent of the a~a~'~ting property
ownor. The mo~Gion carried.
Mr . ~enr y ~'ichtner appeared before the Council in regard to the moving and
repairing of a ~ara~e which is now on his property. He stated that at the present,
the garage is on property which he has sold to his daughter, and he would like ~o get it cif . ~e could not place it on his property in any way that it would be 5-feet
from the property line . It was recommended that NZr. F~chtner apply fora building
hermit and let the ~%n~ineer and Aldermen of the 1'~ir~t ti'Vard view the sa.tuation,
be~'ore angthin~ further is done .
Mr. Barry O'i,eary, Jr., appeared before ~Lhe `'ounoil requesting that Block 5, o£ the r~ourth Avenue subdivision be brought into the City. He vacs informed that he w
would nave to petition such aetion.
P~Ir. Ralph t'agel a~~peared before the Council in regard to rates on insurance for
the Yi~ai:er Plant b~.ildin~, as of October 15tY~~.
The library report f'or the month of Ty'larch was presented. It was moved' by
Horning and seconded by Leuthold the report be approved. The motion carried.
The Police Jud~e~s re~~ort for the month of ll'1arch was ~~resented. Tt was moved b
~Lbersviller ~ d seoonded by Leutnold the report be a~~roved. The mntion carried.
The bills of the month of l~Zarhh were presented f'or payment. After due oonsid-
arat~on by the r'inance Corrli~.it~ee, it was moved by Freeburg and se~on.ded by Rodgers

It way moved by Leuthold and secondod by Horning that the maintenance
agreement on the National A~din~ 1'~~achine bo approved. The motion carried.
It was moved by Leuthold and sec~~nded by Ebersviller Lhat the check being held
belon~in~ to Clay Greening be returned to him, and that the City At'~orney write an app~riate letter of e xplanation. The motion carried.
it was moved by Freeburg and seoonded by Rodgers that the claim on bantam
shovel be re-appraised for value, and the claim be approved. the motion oarr~ed.
It was moved by Scott and seconded by P~r~er tha'c t~~e culvert at 6th Streot and gilder Avenue be studied by the Street Committee and City ~n~ineer, and that they
have authority to act to the best interests of the City, in r emedying the necessary
trouble. The rlo~ion carried.
It was moused by Freeburg and seconded by Leuthold that Riverside Park be
dedicated as being held for Park Purposes in or der Ghat ~t canno~G be sold, without the vote of the people, and the City Attorney was instructed to check all deeds to
such property. the motion carried.
Alderman Le~~thold reported that he had talked with the ~ou.nty ~-~-e-~-~ in
regard to improv:~ng 8th .venue north from 1d2ain Street to past the new saheo~, an,d
he thought that the road should be ready, if the ~ ounty does o ome in.

It was agreed that provisions should be made in the next budget to day f'or sections o.f Sidewalk in town, which will be charged to proper~y owners, but put in
by City. Also that property owners should be informed that they will have two
years to put in such walks.
It Vaas moved by Ebersviller and seoonded by Rodgers ~ha~ the ml~nut~s of the
~,~ater T~~eetin~ of Pllareh ~(th be approved. The motion carried.
It was moved by Leuthold and seconded by Parker that the City accept tho repo
of the Lngineerin~ firm of lack and Veai~ch, and ~uithhold lU5 days liquidated damages
of X20 per day. The motion carried.
It was moved by Scott and seconded by Rodgers that X20,000 0~ '~~Iater ~3ond Fund money be put in 90-da,y Treasury notes, as recor~mend~d by :tay Lathom, and treat other
funds be watchgd, and money in~'ested, if possible. The motion carried,
