`'he C~.ty Council of the City of _ Laurel, met in regular session in:, the Council
Chambers and was oa11e d to order by iulayor ~'homson at 7:3~ 0 ~ elook p.m. Tuesday
March 19th, 1957•
Upon roll call the follova~ng aldermen ansvuered present:
Ebersviller Parker
Horning Rodgers
Leuthold Freebury Scott Vililliams

Mr. 'l im O'Leary, of Bi1lin~s, appeared before the Counc ~.l in regard to Water ~i
along the north part of Fifth ~ anus, for property wkii~h is still out o~ the ~'a.ty Limits. ne would like to have the findings and the opinion of the Council and the
Water comm3.ttee, on the cost to be assessed f'or connection with such a line, and
for sewer to serve the same proparty. '1'ho Engineer quoted a figure o~ 7~ per lot
f'or Viewer, and the same for dater, making a total assessment of 1~0 per lot, ~uhioh
would have ~o be charged. It vacs moved by ~eott and secondedby Louthold ,that the
recommendations o~ the ~ngirie~ar be accepted and that the Counei.l would follow along those lines in ro~ard ~o costs. The motion carried.
1VIrs. ~Navne Mahan appeared before the ~ouneil representa.ng U~omen~ s Clubs in the
City, and ~a~que~~ing that the following suggestions i.n regard to the operating of
the Swimming Pool, be considereds
That the pool be opened at least tvuo weeks earlier in the se~.son than it has in the past;
`.ghat it be kept open during ba~.1. gamos, and ~.f necessary some sort of screen
could be er~~ted over the top of the ~001~ which would act as a safeguard in the
event of foul balls coming over the ~ op of the grandstand;
`that the pool be kept open on vueek-ends during the month of September;
The Park ~omm~ttee will s Ludy the su~~;estxons, and return a reaommendat~.on to
the ~+ounc il, as to the ~r findings.
Mr. day Lathom appeared bef ore the Council in regard to the handl~.ng of tho
V~Jater funds, in order that the bond payments and interest demands for the Bond Holders are sa~Gisf ied. He stated the monthly amounts that will have to be
put into the Bond Fund in order to keen it on the proper level. It was moved by
Soctt and seconded by Parker that the City Clerk be dir~eted to set up the
following funds as directed by Ordinance No. a01.

Mr. 'j'om ~igney appeared_bef'ore Che Coun~?l, representing the E. V. steel company
in regard ~o City Streets. He stated that a type of Bement mould be mixed w~.th gravel for a sub-base for black top, and gave the approximate costs of such pav,~~~;~e

The treasurer+s report f'or the month o£ rebruary vacs ~resen~ed. Tt u~as moved
by Parker and se~anded by ~od~;ers the report ~e approvea. ~1'ne motion ca.rri~a..
`r he Clerks s report for the month off' ~i~ebruary was presented. It was moved by
Froobury and seconded by Rodgers the report be approved. The motion carried.
The Water report for ~~ebruary ~ th was presented. I t was moved by ~c;ott and
seconded b~T tidilliams the rep ors be approved. The motion carried.
alderman r~'reebury, chairman off' the Finance Committee, gave a report ~~w° ~h
meeting on ~~iarah 15~h, vuith the Insurance men of the Cit~t, and reeommend~.d t~.~t 'the insurance ont~~he Water Plant, be divided eugally vaith the ra:~ris Agency, the
Fenton ~,~;ency and the VVilliam~ :~genoy~. It vuas moved by Scott and seconded by
Horning that the recomm~nd~.tions of the committee be approved. The motion Carrie d.
~":~e question of the placing of the sidowalk in S.I.D. X80, on the arrest sideoo~
Alderf~Av.enue was brought up, as to whether or not the sidewalk would be plaQed as the
present plan shows, or whether i~ should be changed as requested by some of .the property owner. It was moved by~~~cott end seconded by ]N~lliar:~s that the matter be
referred tm the ~tr~et and Yak ~'ommittees to being in a pQtit~.on signed by the
property owners, and for them to have the authority to a at, on the raquestg of
the same. The motion carried.

`rhe Water ~ommis~.oner regtzes~ed that the C~.ty purchase me ter for measuring raw water for the refinery. It was moved by Leuthold and senonded by r~illiams
the request be granted. The motion carried.
The eater Comm~.ssione advised the Counoil that 1Pir. Robinson of Black & Veatch
would be in Laurel for a meeting on the 27th of ~~Iarch, at ~.:00 p.xn.

Alderman Leuthold, olzairma~ of the Purchasing commit~-~es gave a report on t1~ Road uildi.n.g A'~aahine, ~ahiah is for the sale in Bozeman. I~e stated that the price
of this machine has come down to X8000 from -the G14,000 wn3oh had been asked at
first, and statad ghat after an examination by Joe l~icholas, the mact7 ~.ne was
found to be in very good cond~.t;Ion. He stated that there would be advantagous
in having the rn~ch~ne, for gavel and oil can be obtained within a short distance
of to~tn. He stated -ghat he had checked into the man7~.er of financing such a purchase and believed that it could be arranged, if' the maah~ne could be kept busy.
It was moved by Scott and soconded by j~odgers that the council Qannot see its
way clear to make such a purchase at this t~.me. ~~ha moti on carried.
