HomeMy WebLinkAboutCemetary Commission Minutes 04.18.1985MINUTES Bt CEMETERY COMMITTEE DATE April 18. lq85 TIME PLACE OF MEETING City Hall Members present: Chairman Rob Harri~ Albert Ehrlick , Wally McGee ~ , Dave Michael, Lyle Jones, Ernie Other's present: Donnie Nelson 5 pm Lem Rmmndt Davis, Sharon Herman : ,T~m Wlisrand A quorum (3 or more) present the following action was taken by the committee: --Rob went over the preliminary budget for the coming year and asked for comments from the committee. --Rob stated that there is still $950 in this years budget to be used for curb and gutter. It.was the committee's feeling to go ahead and put in ~much curb and gutter as we can for the $950. Rob to ask for informal bids. --There was discussion_regarding combining the caretaker's job with the park.department and making.it a full-time position year round. The salary would be split up 60% cemetery, 20% parks and 20% water and sewer system. Motion by Ernie Davis.to recind the board's previous decision and keep Donnie Nelson on as caretaker until something can be worked out with the union as far as fitting this job description into the contract, seconded by Lyle Jones. Motion carried. Rob & Sharon will write a letter to Ron Herman to notify him what is going on. --It was suggested that maybe the sod being removed field could be used on the graves at the cemetery. ~is. --Donnie Nelson was given permission to get someone to help him for 2 or 3 weeks prior to Memorial Day. --Discussion regarding the weeds in the roadway at the cemetery. Ernie to get something to kill the weeds. --Rob reported that someone had bought a spruce tree and donated it'to the Mike McMullen family in memory of Tanya McMullen. They would like it planted at the cemetery by their daughter's grave. The tree wouId be in line with the others. It was the feeling of the board that since it was the same kind of tree and would fit in line with the others that they could see no problem. Ernie to pick the tree up from the Billings Nursery. --Rob read a letter from Billings Monument requesting permission to replace a damaged headstone in the Catholic Cemetery belonging to Dorothy Miner for the Norstrum children. The board felt that the City cannot be responsible for all headstones that become chipped or damaged. The only time the City would be responsible is if the care- taker accidentally breaks a headstone. Donnie Nelson stated that he did not damage the headstone when digging a grave nearby.
