August 1958
A regular meeting of the 'Gity Council of the City of Laurels Montana, was held
in the Couneil ~h.ambers~ and was called ~o order by Mayor J. J. Parker at 7:30 o~clock P.M.~ on Tuesdays August Stn, 1958.
Reverend. Meyers of the First Congregational =~hureh opened the meting with a
prayer.
The minutes of the meat~ng of July lath were read. Motion was made by Horning and seconded by Rodgers that the minutes be approved. Motion Carried.

Mr. Campbell Calvert presented a photograph to the Counel~ entitled ~~Fi~r
Honor, the Mayort~, and way thanked by Mayor Parlor.
Minutes of the special meeting o~ July 23, 19~8~ were read. Motion way, made by Ru.~f and seconded by Bes3.anwitch that these minutes be approved as read. Motion
Carried.
Minutes o~ the Special meet~.ng of July 2~., 1958, were read.. Motion was made
by Ebersviller and seconded by Ruff that these minutes be approved after eorrection~
to ready "Motion eras maele and seconded to accept the bid"~ rather than '~rZotion way made
ar~d seconded ~o accept Option B". Motion Carried.
A'tr. Staudinger appeared before; the Courieil to ask whether or not he would be
able to get a permit to build a bridge across the ditch to make it easier to get into
his driveway. He ~.1VE'.3 at Wyoming Avenue and Eighth Street. After discussions motion
was made by Ruff and seconded by Ebersviller that this matter be referred to the Street
Committee,. and the City Attorney. Motion ~arri~d.
Lenhardt appeared before the Council to ask ~h~.t had begin done in r~,gard to
the demands of the Anployees o~ the Gi-~y. Horning stated that he had turned over a
letter to theme and that a meeting of the men themselv~~ should be held. `Y
Mr. Horning brought up the subject of a ten minute parking area in front of the Montana Sate ~iqucsr Store. After much discussion, motion was made by Ruff argil.
seconded by Horning that phis matter be referred to the ~`.i.re and Police 'Comm3.ttee to
settle this matter. Motion Carried.
Library report for the month of July was presented. Plotion was made by
Leuthold and seconded by Ruff that this report be approved. Motion Carried.
Report o~ the PoZic~ Judge was presented. Motion was made by Horning and
seconded by Leuthold that this report be accepted. Motion Carried.
Police reports fc~r the month of July were presented. Motion was made by
B~~l~nwitch and seconded by Horna.ng that these reports be approved. Motion Carried.
Treasurer's water report for the month of June. was presented. Motion was made
by ~euthold and seconded by Ruff that this report be approved. Motion Carried.
U tter was read from the law fixm o~ Burke, Hibbs, and Sweeny. Mo~,ion was
made by Ruff and seconded by Eber~viller that thi9 matter b~ referred to the Insurance
committee. Motion Carried.

The que~~ion of Water and Sewer to Anderson Dairy was presented. After much
discussion, Motion. was made by Eber~v ller and seconded by Beslanw tch that this matter
be r~ferr~:d to the Engineers the Mayar, the Water Committee and the Sewer Committee.

the City Clerk is to send bills to the parties involved' and pay Krug Brothers directly

Mr. Ruff stated that there was no fire hydxant on Woodland and Third Avenue

Be~lanwitch ask~cl. permission to leave the Sate for several days. Motion
was made by Leuth.o].d and seconded by Ebersviller that this request b~ granted. Motion
Carried.
P~Ir. Parker-asked fnr a report on Victor Pearson' past dui bill for Riverside Park. Mr. Bradley stated that he had been in touch w:i~h the Pear~ons anal
that they would ~tar~ paying on this bil]. very soon.
Mr. Parlor asked far a r~pcsrt on the sidewalk and cuxb survey. Dick Thram
had made a report and recommendations at a previous meeting. Motion was made by
T,euthold and seconded by Monello to accept the report of the committee and the
recommendations of the ~ngineer'~ office. Motion Carried.
The question of certain wa~Pr customers ~ett3.ng a c~.i~count on water for being
out of town on vacation way brought u~. Zt was the recommendat3.on of Mr. Bradley that
resolution be passed. by the City council stating that them would b~ no discount
allowed on the water bills for vacations unless the water is shut n~f at the time of
the vacation. Tn that cage the persons should be informed that the regular shut off and turn on fee of ~r2.~0 would b€~ ehargeel. Also to be ineorpora-~ed in this resolutions is
the fact that partial paym~:nts on water bids are not tv be accepted under any circum-
.~tanees~ and checks sent in the mail for partial payments are to be returned. with a
ZettPr stating this feet. In this connection' Resolution ~'o. 107.E was preeented.

Mayor Parker bro~.ght up the subject of the sign placed on the Highway in
the City limits put up by Mr. Russell to advertise his motel. It way stated that he

Mayor Parker brought up the question of the Street Sweeper. die skated that.
the business men were going to donate voluntarily for the rental of ~100.0~ per month
for four months, after which the street sweeper would not be used any more this year.
Tt was ~tatec~ that vhe $l~OO.C~O ren-~al to be paid on the sweeper would apply on the
purchase price Of ~Y1E machine if the bu~i.ness men dec3.ded to purchase same next year.
Motion was made by Leuthold and seconded by Ruff that we accept this proposition. Mot:i.on 'Carried.
NSayor Parker stated that he had received a letter from the State Board of
Healthy stating that the Council should. b~ considering some land ~a.].1 for thy: Garbage
instead of the Garbage dump as w~ have now.
Mr. Throw stated that Mr. R. W. Bates had not presented a claim for payment
o~ the Street eq~3.pment. Motion way made by Leuthvld and seconded by Ruff that the
City Clerk pay the claim without signature until Dick could get Mr. Bates to sign
some blank claim. Motion Carried.
There being no further business to come before the Council at this ti.m~~ the meeting was adjourned until a special budget meting to be held on Au~u.st 6, 1958, at
