Company. Mr. Eb~rsv3.ll~r ~h~n ~t~tcd that w~ only have ore engir~e~:r, and that Mr. Thrum i~ an assistant engirie~r, and had only b~~;n hired for two year, his t3.me bei
up in July.
Mr. Norman Meyers appcar~d before the ~o~cil anc3. st~.ted that regard3.n~
~ Special Improvement D3.str3,cts, a good ~;ngin~er wo~a].d ~av~ the taxpay~r~ many t3~nes
the av~ojant ep~nt for wages by ~c~mpe~ent engineering. The Mayor and the Co cif thanked A4r. Meyers for hip comments.
Nir. Eb~rsviller stated that many people were tender the impression that tY~~
8~ add.ed ~o an S.I.D. was paid to the engineer in add~~on to his wa~e~. He explained
that the 8~ was used to pay theg~; wagesy and that the engfi.~eer got nething in addition
whether an S.I.D. w~~ created or not.
A~r..Ale~ Henry appeared before the Council and said that h~ felt ~h~.t the
~cr~+m of Laurel was rr~uch toy • small ~o support an erg ~e~r3.n~ staff ~.ik~ w~, have. Mr.
Baker stated that he came from a small ~o~m w~.t~ na ~ngi~~er' grid that it was
impos~ibl~ to get any s~rvic~.
Mr. Throes Mated that he had been hired p~1.y for two years arid. that h3.s time
way up in July. H~ asked that ~ammethin~ be acted upon by the Co~ci3, so that he
could make other arr emends 3~ h~ has nod ne~d.eel in ~atas~e7..
Mr. Rathbun e~la ned to the; gentlemen at the meting that there was much tm
b~ done in the engine~r~.rig department. He invited any o~ th~:m to ~c~me to t~i~, aff ~e

The ~I.~y Clerk r~port~d that ~h~; extra help in her office was on ~h~ r~.corn~nendat~.on of the ~~at~r Exam3.r~er last year, whin he eta~~:d that the office was
uMClermanned end had been for some t~ao years.
Mr. Leuthold stated. that h~ could not accept petition of this k3.x~d witho~.t
~ayi.rig son~eth3.ng in defense of the City ~mployees~ and made a motion ~h~~ this
petition be r~~eeted. Seconded by Beslanw3.tch. Mr. R~.f£ and Mr. Rodgers ~tat~d th~.t
they would be inclined to 3.nvestigate and discuss this matter a little more fu11y. Mr. F'ark~±r Maid that a committee should be appo3.nted to talk Frith a cor+~nitt~e of the
tovmspeoples favoring this petitions and reported on ~.t a l.at~r date. iJpon faking a
vats of this ~notio~, Motion Carried. Mr. Parker theme sated that Mr. Threw would b~
discussed at ~ Special Meting in June.

in regard to the emgineer's office was misrepresented to him, end d~*~3.r~d to withdraw
his name from this petition.

could attend the Mor~tana.Mvni~ipal league Meeti in Butt. Tt was ~ gestec that
Mr. Parker appoint a member of the Council to ~.ttend.

Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Mr. Rathbun main reported on the policy in previous years as to hiring a
school teacher ~'or swimmer help at the water plant. He Mated that Mr. Loyd Berry, a
dormer ~nploye~e, had been hired. for this job, but that I'~r. ferry had sine had a
chance to go to work on a permanent basis for the ~tat~ Highway I~epar~Gment. After
same discussions it was decided that one of the p~rson$ who had applied to the City
for temporary work be considered for this job.
Beslanwitch mentioned that the police are complaining about their light. Tt
was suggested that ~h~ polio committee investigate. One b3.d was received from Laird
Radio Electric. Motion was made by Ruff, and seconded by ~bersv111er that this matter
be turned over to the police committee with authority to act. Motion ~arr~ed.
Sprinkling District No. L was d3.scu~s~d. Mr. Bradley wanted to go on
record a~; Mating that this district was set ~p only for dust eontrol~ and this
d3.strict was being stretched a 13.ttle.
