A regular meeting of the ci~y~ coune~.1 of the City of La~re1~ Montanan was
held in the Council ChaYribers and was called to order by Mayor J. J. Parker, at 7:3D,
o~clock, P.M., on Tuesday, January 21st, 1958.
The meeting was opened by a pryer by Reverend Gibbs.
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered present.

seconded by Monello that the minutes be ~pprowed as read.
Mr. Beslankri.tch sugg~+s~ed that matters given over to City F,~nployees to
handle should be taken care o£ immediately, 3.f possible.

Motion was ~ad~ by Rodgers and seconded by Horning ghat this resignation
be accepted. Motion carried.
This being the time tm open up the sealed bids regarding property as
follows
Lois Eleven (11), twelve (12~, ~hirteer~ (13) Fourteen (lIt)
and Fifteen (15}~ in Block Two West Laurel 5ubdivl.sion,
the City Clerk read the following letter, which was accompanied by a Yellowstan~ Bank Cashier's Check in the amount o.~ X80.50.

As this was the only bid presented, after discussion it was moved by Be~lanwitch ar~d seconded by Ebersv3.ller that we accept this bid. All aldertaen pre~~n-~ vented ~~Aye~+'
except Freeburg rho voted "No"~ as h~ suggested to keep this property to house a City
Barn at some future time. Motion earried~ with the stipula~iox~ that this money bc~ paid
into the General Fund. City Qerk to write a letter to Mr. FrazEe, accepting his bids
and asking him to call at the office of the City Attorney as soon as it is convenient,
and Mr. Bradley would make out deed to this property.
Discussion on the prop€~rty ~o be sold to Clay Greening. Mr. Bradley

As we have the $2~OOf?.00 eheck~ presented b,~ Mr. Greening w3.th his petition, it was disc~t~sed as to what to do with the money. It w~.~ moved by' Besl~anwitch
and g~conded by Ebersviller that this ~2,0(?4.~0 gc~ into the Street F' and. A.f~er mare
discussion, Beslanwitch withdrew his motion., Eber~viller withelrew his second to this
motion. Freeb~ary then mo~:d that one-third of this money be deposited to the Sidewalk
Rand, and two-thirds deposited to the Street Fund. Motion Carried.
Question of liquidated damage was again discussed. `fhis seemed to tie in
with mother situation whereby the City of Laurel is being sued for X125,000.00 in
connection with the death of a man whi1~ working on the Water P1an~ for the Cop ~on-
~truction Cc>. Mr. Bradley stated that he would reeornmend ghat we withhold the balance
dui to Cnp until this qu~;s-~ion of the damage suit is se-~tled one way or the other.
Motion way made by Horning and ~~~onded by Leuthold that we withhold this balance dui to Cop on liq~aida~ed damages until the outcome of this law~tzit. Motion Carried.
The City is holding some money due to Bacharaeh~, Ir~c.~ in the amount of
~1~Q26.88. Motion was made by Horning ar~d ~~cond~d by L~uth0ld that the claim due to
Bacharach in the abawe a~aount be allowed. Motion harried.
Circular way read from the Montana Municipal. Vague, regarding an additiora 1
fee of .6~¢ to be paid on each employes in order to keep the benefi~~ as they are set forth nc~w in Employe~s~ policies. Motion way made by Beglanwitch axed seconded by
Ebersvill~r that w~ keep the same cow~rage as we have now and pay the higher premi~a
on the employees for the time being. Policies could be dropped if tk~e Co~neil de~ireg
to cancels and then ask for bids on coverage for the emplop~s~s.
City Treas~tu•er~s financial report for the month of Deeemb~:r way presented. It was moved by Leuthold and s~eonded by Beslanwitch that this report be approved.
Motion Carried.
Lease was presented b~ the City Clerks by and between the C~.ty of Lazarel~
and S~. Anthony's Catholic Ch~ar~h, regarding a ska~ir~g rink on Church properly. M~.yor
Parker signed this lease in the eonsiderat3.on of X1.00.

Dick Throw reported on the question of street si:gn~. He t~tat~d that them nr~ 180 intersections in the cit~r and only signs that aauld be r~p~i.red. Fie .st~.t~,d

Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Program was proposed for sprinkling streets. Mr. Bradley reported on what must be done in this connection. Mr. Rodgers suggested that the City take one-half
block or one block and make a test case out of its so that we would be able to show
everyone what is to be done, and approximately hoer much it would cost. It was
sugges-~ed that we purchase the spreader for street repairs. Motion was made bg Freeburg
and seconded by Beslanwitch that we purchase this spreader and enter into a contract
to purchase b~ the month. All aldermen pr~sez~~ voted ?~A3ret~' with the exception o~
Jake Ruff who voted f~No~~. Motion Carried.
Mr. Rathbun recommended that with this new equipments a terr~porary street
repair program b~ set up at a charge to the people of about $28.00 per lot. Motion
was made by Beslanwitch and seconded by Ebers~.ller that this be done, to be ~tar-~ed
immediately. All a7.derm~n present voted ~~Aye~',, with the exception of Jake Ruff who voted ~~No~~. Motion carried.
NLr. Ebersviller reported on the wages received by Frances P. Fisher, Deputy
City Clerk and Deputy City Treasurer. H~ then made the motion that her wages be
incre~.sed X50.00 per month, effective January 1~ 195$, to be paid a~ followsz ~2~.0~
from Sewage Disposal Plants ~10.~0 from Cemetery, and ~,15.~0 from water. seconded by
Rodgers and the motion carried.
Mr. Leutho].d reported on a meeting to be held in Buttes on Thursdays and
Fridays January 23 & 2~.~h~ called community Development conference. He stated th~.t the
Commercial Club was of the opinion that someone from T,aurel should go. Mr. ~eutho7.d
stated that the Conunercial Club would be willing to stand one-ha1.f of the expense of
such a trip. It was moved by Beslanw!itch and seconded by Menello that Mayor J. J.
Parker be delegated to attend this meeting and report b~.ek. Motion Carried.
Motion was made by Menello and seconded by Be~l~,nwitch that the City pay one-
half of expenses incurred on this trip. Motion carried.
Mr. Parker reported that we have ~i,73o.00 collected for interest on i~ar
• Bonds. He suggested that this money be transferred back into the Water Replacement Fund. Freeburg made the motions seconded by Leuthold that th3.s money should be tran~-
ferred by Resolutions to be drawn up by the City Clerk.
There being no f'urtt~er businessi Motion was made and seconded that this
meeting be adjourn. Motion carried.
