A re~lar meeting of the City Council of the Ci~~ of ~au~el, ?~ontana,
.was held in the Council Ghamb~;rs, and way called to order by ~a~or J. J. Parker, at 7:3~ p'clack, P.'M.; on Tuesday, December 1.~,, 19 9
Upon roll call the following aldermen answered preset:
J. E. Fr~ebury lake Ruff John Beslanwitch Alex Henry
Steve Romee Cecil Nave Herman 2~. Frank Henry Kaiser
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Motion way made by I
Ruff and seconded by Be~lan~w~.~ch that the minutes be app.raved as `read.
A Mr. Carver appeared. before the councils to demonstrate a stamp
machine. Ma or ~'arker declared ~ ~-minu~~ recess=so that the council could III
examine phis machine. .After reconvening the meeting, Mayor Parker called for the opinion of the council. The City Treasurer reported an t,hi~. Beslanwitch
s~t~atec~. that this matter should be referred t~ the pur~hasin~ committee, to
get to~e-~her with-the office fore and have a study made as ~o the neeessity~
for this machine. Beslan~:teh made Such a motion. ~econc~ed by Kaiser..

Outstanding Committee way c~ll~d. upon, and alderman Ruff reported
that there was one Block that could not ~e serviced with the garbage truck I,
at this time, but that there is a r~efinite F'~re Hazard at this time, 't'he
ctimmittee reconnended that the City make the necessary improvements and let
the garbage rates remain: as they are. l~iotion was made by Beslan~ri.tch anti
seconded by Romer that the eomma.ttee's recaanm.~ndation be approved. Motion carr~.ed.
Mayor Parker called-for a report Qn the Athletic Park ~i~;hts Committee.-
Ruff made a report on this and. asked for a Iit-~l~ more time to rnak~ a more
thorough study of tY~.xs matter before making a recommendation to the council.
Attorney Bradley reported that he had spoken to the County Cornrnissioners about a rental of the police office for office space for the Police Judge.
He suggested that a claim in the amount of 125.OfJ be r~resented to the Commissioners, ~

Attorney Brac~l~y was asked for a report on the matter of the Huff
property. Mr. Bradley reported that Mr. ~ni. M. Baker had bought the property from Mr. Huff, and we are in the process o.f purchasing the ~rop~r~y ~rorn
Mr. Baker on contract. After discussion, emotion was made by Beslanw tch and
seconded. by ~a:ff ghat the Mayor be authorized to enter into a contract to purchase
la-~s 16 through 20 3~n B1ock 3 of the rtnT~st `~aur~l ~ubdivi.sion from Mr. W. M.
Baker, paying ~3,d00.00 down, and the balance at 6~ iz~tere~t. Pra.nc pal and
interest payable sew-annually cav~r a period not to exceed two pears and 11 months, for a dotal of ~~8,000.flO plus closing costs.. Motion carried.
Parker reported on the rules anc~ reg~la~ions o~ the Airport-
commiss ors. The Commission to make a full renor~ to thy; City Council at the
First meeting in. January, 1960.
Parker reported on the Nutting drain.

Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Reports of the City of laurel for the month ending November were
presented as follows: Treasurers Financial Report; Cash report; Clerk's
Trial Balance; ~SUC~~;et report; Revenue Report; and report of Treasurer's
receipts. motion was made b~T ~esl~nw~.tch and seconded by ~rnee that these
reports be accepted.. '~~otion carried.
Police Committee asked to report on the claims presented by the
Policemen for overtime pay for tl~e year 1959. Beslanwitch sug~~sted that the-
pay for ovezti.me for a maximum of 50 hours @X2.00 per hour be allowed, as
it has been z.n the last two veers, but only to the two policemen.taho have
been with the city the entire year. Thy otY~er two to be pro-rated

approximately X250.00, could not be done for less than ~~00.00, as seconds

nTo. 13 ~r~ the tool shed. These two places to be de]_et~d, and -F~he Rod &
Gun, Club sent a corrected bill.
Romee reported that some intersections have from 6 to ~3 inches
of loose gavel on them.. It was agreed that some of this should be removed..
Romee reported that, we need a new stop sign on first and +h.ird
avenues.
Romee reported on the stop sign south of the underraass on railroad
street and. South lst avenue. The street committee has inspected this.
He stated that recently the stop sign has been. moved.t~est ~ram.75 too 85'.
After d7.scussion. it was decided that the ~it~ Council go on record as
challen~;ing the r.~ht of anyone to move this sign, and a~_so that the Montana
H:i.~h.~?ay Com~ni.ssion be informed. that this created. a hazard. ~.'h~ Mayor and
Throm to contact the State Hip;hway Commission, to find. out whether or n.ot they moved it.
Hanry brought up the ~ubj~ct of a no parkin; sign in front of the
C.eor.~e Smith Residence. ?lotion was made by I~aff and seconded by henry that
this matter be referred to the Mayor for report. Motion carried.

Parker reported that Fred SchEic?ecker would. not place a price on the property adjacent to the City Ha11 and ~ibrar~. Tt ~+ra5 decided to table this
matter temporarily.
Parlrer reported that there had. been many complaints about the
maCazine salesmen, and hP would Like to have some GrFen River signs placed
at all entrances to the City. Br~dle~ reported that the sign sho~zld state that the Green River Orda.nanee will. be enforced, and a license required.
Motion was made by ~.uff and seconded by Piave that the Ma~~or appoint a

Parker reported that there had been a request to havE live music
in the ba.r5 on ~?ew Year's E`v~. After discussion, motion was made by
Be~slanwa_tch and Seconded b1T Romee that live music be allowed on TJew year's
Fve. Bradley stated that i~ this were a]_lowed, there would be requests at other times of the year such as July nth, labor day anc~ so forth. After
discussion, motion ~*as voted down with three ~'A~res" and Five rY~TO~srt~

time, motion was duly made and seconded that the meeting be adjourned.
