Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
December 1, 1959
A regular meeting of the City Cozancil o~ the City of Laurel, Montanan waa
held in the Council Chambers, and was called ~o order by Mayor J. J. Farker~ a~ 7a30
o~cloe~, P.M., on ~esday~ De~emb~r l~ 1959.
. Upon roll call, -the following aldermen answered presents

Minutes of the previous meting were regd. Motion way made by Ruff and seconded by Romer that the minutes be approved as read. lotion carried.

We ~~el it would be a good idea to have; rest roo~~ put in ~,suitable place.

the meeting that they ~.ttended. They r~por don the matter of the treata~tent cif

Board of H~~lth. Mayor Parker thanked both Mr. Nunn and Mr. Nicholas for their
reports.
Mayor Parl~er then called on Mrs. Magr~~, who complai.ncad that the cost o~ the Gar'bag~ on her vacant lAt~ was toy hig~i~ in v3.ew of the fact that the lots ~o~a].d
not be servi.c~ed, ~iek reported on th3.a ~a~~~r. A~~~r di~cu~sion, motion was made
by Ruff and ~eesnded by Romer that ~hi~ matter be referred to the Garbage Comn~3.tte~
or h~v~ the Mayor appain~ a near committee to inv~~tigat~ this ma~~~r. lair. Freeburg
stated that he slid nm~ feel that the m~.tter needed to go to eornmi.t~ee. Mrs. Magnus

Mr. Jata~es Httf~ appeared b~for~ the co cil in emnnee~ion with the lots
the City is eansidering b~.~ing. Mayor Parker galled ran Mr. Fr~ebury to i~epart ~r~
this. After the reports it was the recc~mme~ndation of the finaric~ committee that
the property b~ p~archa~ed from Nom. FI~f. phis matter was r~~erred to the City
Attmrney ar~d the Mayor. I~r. Huff ~st~.ted that ~ would per the 1959 taxes i~ the d~a~7,.
could b~ ec~Fnpleted by Friday. Motion was made by R~.ff and seconded by T~om~e that ~h~ property be p~arehased~ and the City to as€~~am~ the balane~ ~f S.I.D. ~87~ in the
arao~nt of ~361.t~0. Mo~ic~n carried.
Gay Easton, Fire Chiefs appeared with several members o~ the fire d~part-
~nent tc~ report on insurance involving re~eusitatar call. Mr. Bradley repar~ed oz~
this matter. Bradley ~ta~ecl that h~ felt ~ ordinance was nec~~sary ~tat3.ng that it would be the duty of the members o~ the firs department ~m acccunpang the ambulance
to the ho~pit~.7. 3.f they wire needed. I~r. Frank Hartley reported on this. Bradley
sugge~t~d that the ordinance shou7.d bps presented at the new council meeting. ~Iotior~
~aa~ made by Ruff anci. seconded by ~eebury that Bradley draw up such are ordinance to
protect the firs deapartment members.
Gay also brought tea the attention of the aCc>ur~eil that the City of laurel
is grow3.ng rapidly and will be going tm a dial system of phoney soon. Thy C3.ty will
then be forced into having a paid firs departments end possibly the property behind
thy: City Hall ~l~ould be considered as housi w311 have to b~ mad~s available. Mayor
Parker asked for an opinion of the Council ~n this ma~t~r.

Harlan Ru~~e7.1. suggested that an option on this properly co~.ld po~~ibly
be taken up for a period 4f time. Af'tsr much discussion, 3t way the opinion of
the Co~.cil that Mayor Parlor talk ~o Mr. Fr~;d S~heid~eker about the cost of this
property.
