A regular meeting of the pity Council of -the City of Laurel, Montana,
was held in the Co~uneil Chambers and was ca]1ed to order by i~layor J. J. Parker]
at 7:30 o~clock~ P.M., on Tuesdays Jung 16~ 1959.
Upon roll call. the following aldermen answered present:
J. E. F~eebury John Beslanwitch Jake Ruff Alex Henry

The minutes o~ thy; previous meeting were read. Mot3.on was made by
Beslanw:itch axed seconded by Romee that the minutes b~ approved as read. Motion
carried..
Dick Thrum asked permission to leave the State. Motion was made by
Ruff and s~cond~d by Freebury that permissipn be granted. Motion carried.
Mayor Parker reported on the Garbage Fi11 situation. He Mated that
he had contacted Jake Kukes~ and had been given permission to make tests ~o see
whether or not the soil is suitab~.e.
Parker reported on the playground equipment received mom the Exeh~nge Club in Billing. 7.'his unit was placed in the youth Side Park, and several
eallt~ in appreciation have been reeeiv~d.
F~.rk~r reported that the ~2~000.00 loan to the Airport Commission had
been granted. H~ mentioned that the Aerar~autics Commission was encouragi~.g this
type of improvement. A committee meeting tiaill be called soon and methods of
handling the Airport w311 be discussed, and reported to the Council.

this resolution be adoptk:d. Upon taking roll call vote, all aldermen present
vate~ 11Aye and ~aifl resolution was declared passed and adopted.
Several applications for Beer and Liquor 1.icenees were presented as follo~rs s
5~.feway Stor~;s, for ofd-premises bier license, with check in the amount
of x,150.00 attached. Motion way made by Beslanwitch and seconded by Romee that
this license be granted. Motion carried.
J. & B. Bar for Beer and Liquor ~~.eense, Frith check 3.n the amount of
~3~O.C~O attached. Motion was made by Rc>mee and ~~,conded by Ruff that this license
be approved. Motion carried,
hoard of Traude Bar for Beer & Liquor Licen~~~ with cheek in the amount
mf ~300.0~ ~.ttached. Motion was made by F`reebury and seconded by Ruff that this
license b~ granted. Motion carried.
Mill Drive in for off-premises bear license, with cheek in the amount
of ~1.~0.00 attached. Motion was made by Beslanwitch and seconded by Romee tY~at
this license be g~a~ted. Motion carried.
As several of the Beverage app~.i.eations had not yep been received,
motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Ka3.ser that Mr. Bradley be excused to call
those bu5ines~e~ who had not yet filed. Motion Carried.
Harold~s Beer Mug fc~r retail Beer Licenses with check in the amount o~
~7.~0.(?0 attached. Motion was made by Beslanurl.teh and seconded by Ruff that this
license b~ approved. Motion carried.
Laurel Bar for Beer and Liquor L~.censet w3.th check in the mount of
~3C?~.E?0 attached. Motion was made by Ruff aMd seconded by Beslanwitch that this 3.icense be gran~;~d. Motion carried.
Cheerio Lounge for Beer and Liquor Licenses with eh~ek in the amount of
~300.(?0 attach~el. Motion way made by Beslanwitch. and seconded by Romeo that phis
license be granted. Motion carried.

City Clerk reguested a Special meeting to be held in June for the
purposes of approving June elaims~ approv3.n~ late beer & liquor 1ic~nse fees, and
approv3.ng resolutions for transfers of fund. Motion was made by Ruff and
seconded by Beslanwitch that a Special Meeting be held at ?a30 otelock, P.M.~ in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, June 23, 19, 9. Motion carried,
Alderman Nave asked permission of the Council to lave the State.
Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Beslanwitch that this permission be
granted.. Motion carri.ed..
Parlor r~por-~~d on the condition of the Library roof. Motion way mac1.~
by Ru~'f and seconded by Henry to authorize the engin~~r~s off`~.ce to ask for
bids on this project. Motion carried.
There was discussion as to the extension o~ a phone for .fudge Sterrett,
who 3.s nor loeatad in the Police Department. Mayor Parker to speak to one of the County Comrna_s~ioners and ask for a part of the phone expense in connection
with Sterrettts capacity as Justice o~ the Pewee.
Mayor Parkes asked Ruff for a report on the Montana Municipal Leag~.e
Mee~in~. Ruff made a complete report and s~atea that he had been appointed to
the Z~ague Legislative Comm~.ttee. Motion was made by Freeburg and seconded by Rome to ace~pt the report. Motion carried.
Treastzrer~s report for the month of May was presented. Motion was made
by P're~b~ and s~cond~d by Beslanwiteh that this report be approved. Motion
carried.
Frank suggested that an ordinance be passed mal~..ng it against the Saw for anyone to b~ in the Public Park"s after 9 P.M. After discussions 3t way
sugg~5ted that there be more lights placed at the swimming pool and ~.n the Parks
so that ~her~ would not be as much chance of vandalism. Motion was made by
Freeburg and seconded by Henry that this matter be referred to the City Attorney
and the Park Comm3.ttee~ for their report at the next regular meeting. Motion
carried.
Henry stated that on Fourth and Fifth Streets there wire many bould~;r~
left in the street and asked that something be done about this.
Ruff stated that the Gity Limits sign on the West End of town was not
placid at the end of the City lirnits~ and asked if this could be moved. Dick was asked to investigate this matter.
Romee reported some holes in the street on Idaho between ,nth and 6th
street .
There was some dscu.ss3.on regarding the 4~-mi7.e speed limit sign on
the Highway in the Fourth Ward. It wa.s suggested that Mayor Parker get in touch with the Highway Commission to see whether or not this could be moved to cut
down the speed on that stretch of highway.
Discussion on what could. be done about the insect control situation.
Mr. Bradley felt that a X1.00 assessment per lot could be ineorporat~d into the
Garbage Assessment Resolution for approval by the Ci-~y Council.

Cedar that is a nuisance and ~n eye-sores and recommended. that some~h3.ng be done to force Mr. Reits~ to clean it up. Ater discussion, it was decided that
Alderman Frank talk to Mr~. Reiter, to see if he could get him to c1~an it upa or
to sign a waiver allowing the City to do 3.t. Mr. Bradley to write up the papers.
Diek stated that we shtzuld be getting quotations on costs for one ax
two sprayings for insets. After discussion, this ~nat~~r was turned over to the F~ngineer~s office.
As the terms of A.E.Leuthold and Harold. ytilliams for the Boarei of
Appeals are soon to be completed, Mayor Parker announced the appointments of P.A.
Johnston and Neil Baker to the Board for two year terms. Motion was made by Ru~'f and seconded by Beslanwitch that these appointm~ts be approved. Motion
carried.

suggested that perhaps the culverts were undersized. Engineert~ office to f3.~d out the cost of replaci~.g the culverts i~ this is the ease. phis matter referred to
the Street and Alley committee to report an at the n~~ meeting.
