A quorum (3 or more) present ~he following action was taken by
the oommittee:
1. It was reported that the Catholic Church would like the city
to take over the entire operation of the Catholic Cemetery.
Father Pittard, representing the Catholic Church, appeared
before the board with the maps and records kept by the church.
These would all be turned over to the City along with their
Perpetual Care Fund of about $12,000.00. The land would be
deeded to the City with the stipulation that the same rules
and regulations apply to these sections that are followed
in the rest of the cemetery. If the City should ever dispose
of the cemetery, the Catholic Church would like the first
opportunity to get their section back. The Catholic Church
would no longer pay the $1,500.00 per year maintenance fees
and the City would receive all money from the sale of the
lots.
Motion by Lloyd Shay to have Joe Bradley check into the
legality of this and also check the church records regarding
their Perpetual Care Fund, seconded by Frank Smith. Motion
carried.
2. Lloyd Shay reported that he roughly measured about 18.5 acres
of ground to the north and east of the cemetery that could
possibly be purchased for additional cemetery land. He
stated there is a small piece of ground, about 2.17 acres,
directly east of the Catholic Cemetery that nobody knows
who it belongs to. Joe Bradley will check the Catholic
Church deed to see if it belongs to them. The City would
be interested in approximately 12 to 15 acres of this farm
ground to square off the cemetery.
Ike Schessler made an offer to sell this ground for $5,000.00
per acre with the stipulation that he would not want all the
money in the same year.
The committee will take this offer under advisement and check
on the current land prices and possibly make a counter offer.
3. Discussion about locking the gates at the cemetery during
the night time hours. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Smith will lock
the gates every night at sunset and Ernie Davis will unlock
them at 7:00 am Monday through Friday and Bill Feller on
Saturdays and the Police Department on Sundays.
