J. Parker at 7.30 o'clock P.M., on Tu~sc?ay, October 18, 1960. LTpon roll call, ~Ghe following aldermen answered present; J. E. ~'r~ebusy Jake Ruff John Beslanwitch Herman K. Frank Cecil Navy .ilex Henry Henri Kiser The minutes of the previous meeting were read. ?~?otion was mad~~by Ruff and seconded by Frank that the minutes be ~pprov~d. as read after the addition that the s-L-e~l brush for the Sweeper be purchased. from the Sprinkling ~istriet. lotion carried. Clarence Eggert appeared before the cQUnci1 to ask what had been done about his chinchilla question. Tick reported on this, and a letter was read written to Mx. ~gpert from the Board of A~~eals, recommending that he be allowed to build the ~ara~e in guest~on, but reminding him that he was not to expand his business. After discussion, motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Frank that the recommendation o~ the Appear Board be accepted. Motion carried. Brad].~y started that the ordinance covered cows, horses, goats, and barnyarc! animals but stated that the ordinance could be amended if. the council so desired. Beslanwi.tch then made the motion that Mr. Fg~ert be allowed to continue his business, at least until any complaints were rec~in~d br the council. Motion seconded by Frank, and motion carried. Joe Larson appeared before the council with a letter of recommendation as to the kind of equipment tY~at would be needed by the Fire ~3epart~ent and PoZic~ department when the Telephone Company went to the dial system. Ruff made a motion that the letter from the department be placed on file. Seconded by~ drank and the motion carried. As time is important in deciding the system to be used, Beslanwiteh was of the opinion that ~omethin~ sho~].d be decided at this time. He thin made a motion that the Fire department and the committees recommendation be accepted provided that financing could be, arranged. This motion died on the floor for want of a second. As several of the aldermen were confused as to the two types of equipment needea~ it was decided to call Jack Olsen forf~irther e~alanation, and other city business be taken care of in the meantime. City C1erY reported on certain names to be appointed election judges and clerks for the coming election. Motion was then made by Freeburg and seconded by Ruff' that these persons be appointed. Mo~Gion carried. Tick reported on railroad street. Mr. Qlsen appeared before the council and explained that two telephone system in question. Several gu~stions were asked. Motion way th~;n made by duff and seconded by Beslanwitch that the council accept the fire department and the comrnitte~'s recommendation b~ approved, provided that the command conference system can be financed. Motion carried. li Dick re~ort~d on chipping districts. Dick reported that there were some people who wire boring leaves on the new curb +~o curb blacktop. H~ also stated that this completely ruined the job. He stated that some±hing should be put in the paper asking people not to burn their leaves on this type of street. dick rQport~d on t~i~ intake at the water plant, and stated that a sludgy pump ~ was needed. x~ says that this item would cost about $325. J0. Fre~bury recommended that this pub be purchased. Motion eras made by Ruff and seconded by Freeburg in this canrrec~tion. Motion carried. dick reported that a chain saw was needed to cu~':down about 50 dyad tr~e~. 'Che rental on this saw would be about ~lc.5o pPr da~r. Ong could be purchased at a cost of :262.50. Freeburg staffed that he wc~nld go along proved~d that proper budgeting could be arranged. Motion was made by Ruff and sesconded by Kaiser that this item be purchased. Motion carried. ,.-y" ~ Beslanwitch asked permission to leave the state. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Kaiser that permission be granted. Motion carried. Parker repotted on Civil ~efen~e, and .stated that our newly appointed Civil 'defense ~i.rector had been transferred to ~,+dhhiting, Indiana, and a new Civil ~9ef~ns~ ~I director would have to be appointed. Harold Collins' name was mentioned in this connPCtion. I ~ Minutes of the -City Council of Laurel Beslanwitch stated that the Police Committee agreed that our polies car taas needing repa7.r, and that it was the committee's recommendation that specifications be dram up and a 1961 model be advertised far bids. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Henry that this be taken care of. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before the council at this time motion was duly made and s~eonded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried. orothy P.
