A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of laurel, Montana, was
held in the Council Chambers, and was called to order bg Mayor J. J. Faker, at 7:30
o ~ cloche, P.M. on Tuesday, ~etob~r 196c~.
t7pon roll call the following aldermen answered present:
J. E. Freebzzry Steve Romer John Beslanwiteh Jake Ruff Herman K. Frank "Cecil Nane ilex Henry Henry Kaiser
The minutes of the previous meeting of September 2f~th were read. Motion
was made by Beslanwi~ch ~d seconded by Ruff that the minutes be approved as read.
Motion carried.
Chet Scott and George Strand, members o~ the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department
appeared before the council to state that the fire department wished to go on record
as offering whatever help to the Council if they needed any help with a prolale~n.
Parker gave a lengthy tally on Civil Defense.
application fvr liquor license signed by the veterans of For~ig~ Wars was presented, with check in the amount of X150.00 attached, Motion was made by
Ruff and seconded by~Henry that this application be granted and license issued.
Motion carried.
Letter of Agreement stating forth fees and duties of George ~I~tzger for the
board and disposal of stray dogs was read. This letter, containir~ all pertinent
informations to be signed by Mayor Parker and George Metti~er. Motion was made by Ruff axed seconded by Henry that this agreement be entered into. Motion carried.

Certain monthly reports were presented for approva3.: He.=~lth Officer's
report, Report of the Police Judge, reports of the ~'atrol.men, City Clerks cash
balance, City TBeasurer~s reports and Iribrary report. Motion was made by Beslanwitch
and seconded by Freeburg that these reports be approved. Motion carried.

CITY ~F LAURA, MON`TA~tA, was presented. Motion was made by Freeburg and seconded by
Beslanwitcl~ that this resolution be adopted. Upon t~~kirig roll call votes all aldermen i, present voted itAye'~ and said resolution was declared passed and adopted.

Motion was made by k'reebury and seconded by Ruff that these claims be
allowed. Lotion carried.
City Clerk asked for permission to leave the State. Motion was made by*
Ruff and seconded b~ Beslanwitch that per.~~ion be granted. Motion carried. _
Parker asked permission to leave th~,'City for four or five days. Motion
was made by Ruff a.rid seconded by Kaiser that permission b~ gr~.nted. Motion carried.
pity engineer reported on the signs that have been requested by the City
council. He stated that all had been taken care of except one stop sign. Tn th3s
same connection, Dick stated that at some later date he would like to replace sorry; stop signs a few at a ti~~. He also said that the regulation color was being changed
I to fed an~.~hite to make them uniform color througho~zt the country. Motion was made
by Ruff. and seconded by Nave that this be allowed. Motion carried.
Dick also reported that Phil Schreiner was finished with the +City of Laurel
~ as of this date. Question was raised as to whether or not he could be given a leave
of absence and then put back to work when he could work. pity Clerk reported on a statement received in her office from I~r. Hayward stating that Mr. Schreiner would
j never again be able to do anything but light work.

Dick stated that the City Employees urould be working down at the intake.
He reported that the C3.ty should have a few hard hats for safety purposes, acid requested
that. he be allowed to purchase a few. Motion was made by Ruff~a.~d seconded bar ~ Beslanwitch that the City purchses six of these hats, on the condition that the employes
~ be instructed to wear them if needed. Motion carried.
I~ Dick reported on the cost of the sprinkling districts at about $3,OC~~.00.

using the Sweeper in all tine a~~~~ ~c~„~, ~~u ~•~Q~ ~--r----a
very good shape. ~~e said that he had raised the rental of the sweeper f'ro~ ~3•Q0
per hot~.r: plus the cost of the man to ~6lt,0~ per hour. He also asked permission to buy
a steel brush, at an approximate cost of $~250.(?0,~•'~ Ater discussion, motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Kaiser that this request be granted. Motion carried.
Much discussion on the matter o~ railroad street, and the bad dust condition
there. Dick reported on this. Tn view of last year's discussion with members o~ the
Great Western. sugar Company, it was decided to write to someone else, to try to get
some cooperation on the matter of fixing thi.~ street and make same into aheavy-dut~r road, with the Sugar Company the N.F.Rail.road and the City all participating in the
cost. Motion was then made by have and seconded by Beslanwitch that a letter b~:
wri~ten to Frank A. Kemp of the Great Western Sugar company, of Denver, Colorado.
Motion carriede
Ruff reported on a meeting that was held with members of -the Kmerican ~.egion
Club in regard to the Athletic Park Lites, after which he stated that it was the
recommendation of ~Ghe Park committee that the charges agreed upon at ~~e beginni.r~g of
the season rett~ain unchanged. Motion way then made by P`rsnk and seconded by Nave that
the recommendation of the Park committee be accepted. Motion carried.
Parker asked for a report from the comYnittee appointed to investigate thy;
chinchilla question and the :question of the beauty shop in the home. Letter was read

signed by Charles Eggert to Dr. D. A. Nottingham, chairman of the Board of Appeals.
It was the opinion of the ~ouricil that we should wait on this question until we
receive a recommendation from the Board of Appals.
Henry stated that h~ had reported a stray dog in his neigY~borhood to the
Police on two separate oecassinns, and the polio h~.d dons nothing about it. Mayor
Parker said that he would take care of it tomorrow'.
Parker stated that he mould like to appoint Harold 5. Collins as Auxiliary
Police Chief. Motion was made by fluff and seconded by Nave that this appointment
be approved. Motion carried.
Parker reported that Barry O~Leary cement work was not up to specifications. Dick stated that Mrs. O'Leary had been called, and definite appointments made on two
separate occasions, but that she had not attended these meetings. A~otion was made by
Ruff and seconded by Beslanwitch that the Mayor and City Engineer take wh~tevex~ steps
neee$gary in this matter. Motion carried.
Report given on the meeting with the Nest End 1~ater Association. After much discussion, motion was made by Freebury and seconded bey Kaiser that the matter
of the difference in costs of pipe, et:~., between an 8-inch line and a 6-inch Line
be handled in the sa~rie manner the Trace Lane wader line. Motion carried.
Parker reported that the Federal Grant-in-aid had been allowed by the
State Sanitary Board, but ghat this matter was not official as yet.
Parker stated that this was the time to appoint three clerks and judges
for the co~riing election. After much discussion, motion was made by F`reebtiry and
seconded by Ruff that the same clerks and judges be appointed as were appointed
for the last City election, pro~rided they ~rere available. Motion carried.
There beiMg no further business to came before-the City Council at this time, motion was duly made and seconded that the meeting be ~.djourned.. Motion
carried.
