Members present: Chairman Norman Orr Lloyd Shay , Lee Barndt , Sharon Herman B. Other's present: Ooe Bradley Father Pittard A quorum (3 or more) present the following action was taken by the committee: Discussion regarding taking over the Catholic Cemetery. Father Pittard stated that the 2.17 acres in question at the last meeting does in fact belong to the Catholic Church. This ~ould be turned over to the City with the rest of the land. The c'hurch has agreed to the following: 1. To have the ground surveyed at their expense and deed it to the City of Laurel effective 7-1-87. 2. Give the city the $12,517.96 in their perputual care fund with no stipulations on ~hat it can be used for. The church will maintain the grotto. 4. They will pay the $300.00 per month maintenance fee fo~ May and Oune. 5. The city could use the 2.17 acres in the back to trade with Ike Schessler to square off the cemetery. 6. The church would also like to have the first option of taking over the catholic portion of the cemetery if the city ever ceases its operation of the cemetery. 7. Cliff 3ohnson, the man in charge of the churches records, would be willing to help with the record conversion and also to attend the cemetery board meetings. There was discussion regarding the $12,517.96 over to the city. It is the boards recommendation used towards the purchase of a new backhoe. that ~ill be turned that this money be Motion by Lloyd Shay that the city take over the Catholic Cemetery as of 7-1-87 and that the $12,517,96 be allocated towards the purchase of a new backhoe. Seconded by Lee Barndt. Motion carried, 3oe Bradley will prepare the necessary papers to be presented to' the City Council. Discussion regarding the City perpetual care fund. Ooe Bradley stated that the Ordinance could be changed so that the money could be used, but suggested that certain limitations be put on it so that it could not be spent for just anything.. The board recommends that the Ordinance be changed so that the money can be spent but only for land acquisition or capital purchases if approved by a 2/3 vote of the City Council. At the last meeting it was discussed purchasing some additional land from Ike Schessler. There was also discussion about swapping some ground with Ike to square off the cemetery. Joe Bradley stated that the land would have to be appraised if we were to swap or buy. Joe also stated that the land could be purchased on a contract and paid for over a period of time. The cost of the appraisal ~as estimated at $500.00 to $500.00. The cemetery Board mould like to recommend that the city have the land appraised and check further into buying some additional ground.
