A r~gul~r meeting of the City Council of the ~Cit~r of L,aure3 was held in the
Council Chambers and was called to order by J. E. Freebury~ President of the Council
in the absence of Mayor Parker at 7x30 o~cloek~ P.M.~ on Tuesdays January 5~ 1960.
Upon ro11 ca11 the fo1l.o~aing aldermen answered present:
John Beslanwitch Steve Romee Cecil Nave J.E.Freebury
Alex Henry Henry Kaiser Herman K. Funk
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Motion was made by B~~lanwitch
and s¢conded by Henry that the minutes be ~.pproved as read. Motion carried.
President Freebury called on Ted Waddell and John Meyer, who a~~eared before
the council to inquire why the sewer charge Kai higher this year in compar3.son to other
outside sewer users. City Clerk reported on this.
two men representing outdoor sign eompanie~ appeared before the council to
ask if the Council 3.ntended to adopt some sort of sign ordinanc~~ or a set of regulations which would gave -them information which they need in order to pZaee
different ltind~ of signs in ~aur~l. Dick reported on this. After discussion, 3.t was
the decision of the council that a committee should be appointed to work with the Board
of Appeals the Zoning Boards and the sign men. A4r. F'r~ebury then appo3.nted the Strut
and A11ey Committee and the Pelice Cm~nm~..ttee, ~ri.th in~truetions to have such a meet3.ng
and report back at the first meting in February. Be~lanwiteh as Chairman of both these eommitt~e~ called such a meeting for Tuesday, January 12, 196, at 7:00 P.M.

CITY OF LAUREL, MONT.AI~iA, was presented. Motion was made by Beslanwitch and seconded by iVave that this resolution b~ passed and adopted. Upon taking roll call vote, all
aldermen present voted '~'Aye~~, and said Resolution was declared passed and adopted.

seconded by Romee that this resolution be adopted. Upon taking roll call vote, all
ald~arm~n present voted ~Aye~;, and said resolution No. 11~l~ was declared passed and
adopted.
Certain reports of the City of I;~aurel for the month of December were presented. as follows. Report of the Police Judge; Reports of the Patrolmen; Trea~urerTS Report;
Budget Report; Revenue Reporty ~d~.ter r~gistrar~s report; and water revenue bond report.
Motion was made by Beslanwitch and seconded by Romer that these reports be accepted.
Motion carried.
Several r~;commendations for purchases, signed by the purch~.sing committee were pr~:s~;nted a~ follows
Approximately 60 strut ~ign~ to finish out the program started 3n 1958.
Two tires for the Patrol, from Dave~s Mobil Serv:i.e~.
One Chair for the En~i.neer's office to be purchased from the Western O~fic~

After discussion, motion was made by Beslanwiteh and seconded by Henry tYiat
the recommendations of the purchasing corrmlittee be accepted,, and the items purchased.
Motion Qarried.
Thy questions of signs to be posted at a7.7. ent~ranees to Laurel, regarding the
Qreen River Ordinance was brought up. Dick reported on this and quoted certain pric~«~. A~t~r discussion, motion was made by Frank and seconded by Beslanwiteh that the engineer
be authorized to purchase four signs at a cost o.~ ~].la..00 for four. Motion carried.
Freeburg reported that the bridge on rai]soad street had been taken care of.
the question of repairs to the Library steps was brought up. After discus~ion~ t,`.i.ty Engineer was instructed to fix phis steps which he stated that h~ would do whin the
weather permitted.

The claim for the H & W Lumber Company eras ques~ions:d by Mr. F~eebury,
who stated that this claim should be paid but the warrant held up until such dime as the Company paid for their fire protection, in 1-~he amount of ~1,~~.00. After di~-
cus5ion of this matters and on recommendation from the City Attorney, motion was made
b~ Beslanwitch ~.nd seconded by Henry that the City Cierk write to the H & W Lumber
Company by Registered I;~tter, with Return R~e~ipt Requested, and inform them that their
fire protection contract was excelled as of this date. Motion carried.
The claim from the J. C. Penney Company regarding two uniform shirts and one
Police Cap for one of the policemen was questioned. Tt was reported that 3.n July, 19,57,
when the clothing allowance wag discontinued on advice of our City Attorney, who s~at~d
that it was against the 1aw~, the Patrolmen were given a rare at that times and it was
decided that in the future the only part of the un3.form that would b~ p~eha~ed by -the
City was the Uniform Capp. Motion was made by Henry and seconded by Beslanwitch that the claim be changed to read only the cap. Motion carried.
Otherwise, motion was made by Henry and seconded by Kaiser that the seat of
the claims be allowed. Motion carried.
Question of the A3.rport was brought up. Beslan~ritch stated that h~ would like to have an Airport Comm3.ssion meeting on Thursday, January 7, 1960, ~t !t otclock,
and the City Clerk to notify the members of the commission.
In connection with the Airports the following Resolution was presented.

seconded by Frank that this resolution be adopted. Upon taking ro11 call vole, all
aldermen present voted "Aye" and said resolution was declaxed passed and adopted.
The question of Dewey Nunn moving into the house at the Sewage Dispo~~,l
Plant w~ brought up. After discussion of this ~at~er, motion was made by Kaiser and
seconded by Henry that Dewev Nunn be permitted to move into the house at a no~..nal
charge of $1 .00 per month which 3.s to take care of the insurance, and he is to pay
his own utilities. Motion carried.
Freeburg stated that he felt them should be a chan~~; in the zoning orda.nanc~ to take care of F1~eral Homes. Dick reported that the Board of App~al~ had granted a
vari~.nce in the zoning; ordinance to take c~r~ of one of these Fungal Homes, which wi11
be adjacent to the Catholic Church property.
Dick pres~nt~d the first equipment maintenance report to the Council.
Dick reported on problem regarding the height of foundation requirements.
He suggested that the City Council. sY~ould go and 3n~peet some of these conclitions~-and
come up with a recommendation or suggestion.
Fr~.n.k inquired a~ to whether or not property taxes on the Ethel Spence
property were too high. As the tax records are in the City G1erk~s offices h~, wass
asked to meet with her for phis information after the meeting.
As there was no tuf'rher information to come before the City Council at this time, motion was duly made and seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
