HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 10.03.1961 (3)Minutes of the City Council of Laurel October 3, 1961 A regular meeting of the City Cotxnci of the pity of Laurel, Montana, was held in the Council Chambers, and was called to order by Nlayor John Beslanwitch, at 7:3~ o'clock, P.M., on `~uesday, October 3, 1961. Upon roll call the fo1loT~ing aldermen answered ~re~ent: Jacob Ruff Roy Edwards henry Kaiser Gerald G~.ss' Cecil Nave Harold Filson Steve Romee Kenr~eth Olson This being the time and place for the apenin~ of bids on ~3~?C~,~'('~.C?0 Sewage Disposal Plant Bonds, Mayor Beslanwitch stat,~d that we ~rould dispense with the reading of the minutes, temporarily, and proceed with the opening of these bids. Mayor Besl~.n~ritch thin asked Thomas L. Bradley, the City l~ttorney, to preside at this meeting for tl-ie purpose of hearing these bids. the City L1erk stated that there were no sealed bids received by her office, whereupon Mr. Bradley asked for an opening bid. B. Myer Harris, representing the Ye1.1Gta~~one Bank, Cr~org~ K. Baum & Company, and otYiers, opened the bicxding on the basis of straight across, with extra ccups~n5~ the bidder to stand the expense of the imprinting of the bonds and the attorney's opinion, subject of colz~~e to the approval of the Attorney General. Nis first bid c,~as ~7.~?~0~`(?.Of?~ or 1~~. J.A. Hogel, Incoz•porated then offered the same ccsnditions, also the other bidder, Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood. A].l bids were accompanied by Cashiers ch~;cks in the amount of ~30,~00.00 or more. Piper, Jaffray & F~op~rood, being the second bidder, offered ~122,~00.~0. Fio~le, Zncorporat~d, then offered ~121,90~.0(?. As each bidder had an opportunity to bid consecutively when Node's bid reached ~115,9~~.~~, the Yellowstone Bank asked for afive-minute recess. Mr. Bradley, as the presiding officer, granted this recess. Upon re-convening the meeting the Yellowstone Bank continued the bidding with ~115,800.0~. Upon Piper, Jaffray ~C Hopwood bidding ~11.5,~On.OO, another recess was requested by J.A. Hogle, & Company. Recess was granted by Mr. Bradley. Upon re-convening the meeting, Hotel & 'Company bid ~i~.5,3~~.~~, the Yellowstone Bank, ~115,20C?., and Piper, Jaff'ray ~c Hopwood ~11~,100.0(?. Hog1e & company's last bid was $11K,0~0.00, upon which he passed for further bidding. The YEllo~astone Bank's last bid was $~11~.,7n0.~~ or 3.Z3~• Upon which Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood bid a final. bid of $11?~,6~`0.(30, or 3.7268, with a ~21C`,OC? prem1_um. After discussion, motion was made b~ Ruff and seconded key Nave that this bid of Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood be accepted. Motion carried. Motion was then made by Kaiser and seconded by Gass that the City 'Clerk return the Cashier's checks to the unsuccessful bidders. T~otion carried, and the members present picked up these checks. George Fox, the representative for Piper, J~ffray & Hopwood, r~que5ted that the transcript of the proceedings be forwarded to Piper, Jaffrey & Hopwood, 115 South Seventh in care of Ruth Cranston.
