A regular meeting of the City ~oizncil of the City of Laur~1, NTontana,
was held in the ~~ouncil Chambers, and ~,ras called to order by P!Iayor Jahn Beslanwitch
at 7:30 o'clock P.P7., on Tuesday, ~eptembPr 1962.
Upon taking ro11 call, the following aldermen answered present;
Jacob Ruff Steve Romee~ Kenneth Olson G. L. Gass
Harold Wilson Cecil Na~~ Roy ~~d.wards Henr~r Kaiser
The minutes of the prev~.ous meeting were read. Motion was made by Nave
and seconded by Olson that the minutes b~ approved as read. ~'otion carried.
Report of the Police Judge was presented. Motion was r~ de by Olson and
s~;conded by Kaiser that this report be approved. Motion carr~~d.
Reports of -the Patrolmen were presented. Motion was made by 01son and
seconded by Gass that these reports be approved. Motion carried.
Library Report for the montYi of August was presented. r'Iotion VJas made
by Kaiser and seconded by Bass that this report be approved. Motion carried.
Petition was presented to the City Council as follows:
P E T I T T_ O N
We, the undersigned property owners, hereby petition and consent that the Gity
Council of the City of Laurel create a Sprinkling District on Alder Avenue from
N~~in to Fast Sixth Street for t~~he purpose of doing street work, to wit; 32~ wide
oil mat with necessary grading work thereto and do agree that i;h~ proposed cost of
~25.1~ per Iot will be assessed against the property on. the next tax assessment. It is further understood that the total. cost per lot of sprinkling this Avenue will
be $0.33 of which the Cit~r of Laurel has a~rPed to pay ~,>25.18 per lot.
Motion was ma~.e by Ruff and seconded by Romea that this p~titian be accepted.

Wayne Mahan appeared before the Council to report on the Laurel United Fund Drive,, asking that the period from Octo~rer 1st to October Z~th be the dates specified
for the dive. He asked f'or the support of the 5~ouncil.~ and asked that the ~'Ia~:~r
write a letter for the Outlook. A~'ter discussion, motion was made by Kaiser and
seconded by Gass that the dates requested be publicized as set aside for the t7nited
Fund Drive. Mot~,on carried,
L~nhardt a,~ai~ appeared before the Council to ask~the decision of the
Council was on the meeting regarding his extra wages,, held on August 22nd. He was
told that the previous decision of the council was final.
Schreiner appeared before the Council to ask for a report of the committee
which was appointed to inspect his sidewalks curb and gutter situation. Gass reported that the committee recommended th~t'the City remove the existing elxb and gutter at
n.o charge to the property owner, but that the cost of replacing same would ibe the
property owner's responsibility. Motion was made by Nave and seconded by Romee that
the r~eommendation of the committee be approved. Motion ~s~rried.
Mr. Fox appeared before the council to complain that the ditch near his property is overflowing into his fields. It was the opinion of most of the City
Council that this matter is the responsibility of the City, a,nd th~_s ditch ~~11 be

Street ce~mmitteP was not in a position at this time to report or make any
suggestions on possibilities of load limits and so for~ho Wilson reported that the
comp]_aints he had received wire re~;ardin~ large loads of hea~ay pipes ~oin~ through
at proximately 7:(`(? o' clock A. M.
Edwards report~;d on meeting with the school representatives regarding a
route for school busses. ~'olice and Police Committee would like ~iar~: time to
observe th.e route that has been set up temporarily. A decision will bP forth-
coming in a month car two.
City engineer reported on the weed situation.
RomeP as chairman of the purchasing committee reported on the possibility
of purchasing a 1951 International with a box. City can purchase this truck for
X975.^~ and the purchasing committee recommended that this truck be purchas~ci a-~ this
price. After discussion, motion was made by Ftu,ff and seconded by Olson that the purchasing committ~~_ and the G~ty-End n~er stuffy this truck and ask that the City be
allowed to try it nut sor a ~e~iod of time, with the suggestion that the city lease

this truck with the option to buy. This ecanmittee to h~~.ve authority to aet.
Motion carried.
Ruff questioned a claim t'rom Gamble's; a claim for welding; and reported
on magazine salesmen. After discussion, City ~ieenses Drill be required of all'
persons before they are allowed to contact the business district.
Olson reported that Ellingson, Hoppel and others have reached a stale-
m~te in negotiations to come into the City limits. Ellingson would like to have
permission to hook up water from his own house to his new house in the back. He
would like to bring this property into the City limits. After much discussion
motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Nave that if the Ellingson property is
platted, filed and approved by the City ~~ouncil, that -the City take in the three
houses, and g~_ve them `City water. Motimn carried.
City Engineer reported on S. T. D. X91.

Motion was:;: made by R uf~ and seconded by Olson that the claims be allowed. Motion
carried.
Discussion about 20' in the street belonging to NicCaule ys. Motion was
made by Ruff and seconded by Gass that a letter be written to Dungan McCauley asking
that this portion of the property be dedicated to the City as a street. I~Totion carried.
Ruff reported on a decision ~o erect an outdoor plumbing establishment at
Riverside Fax~k. Th~_s dec?_sion recorr~mended by the Park committee, and this building
to be left open at a1.1 times, but that the indoor plumbing be locked up after the
tourist season is over. Motion made to this effect by Nave and seconded l~gr Edwards.
Motion carried.
Ruff reported on a meeting with the J.C.'s and stated that they are ready
to select the paint, and get started painting the buildings at the 'ark.
There being no further business to come before the Cot~neil at this time,,
motion was duly ma~l.e and seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
