A regulGr meeting ~f the City Council. of th~City of Laurels ~'jontana,
was held in the council chambers and was called to order by Mayor John Be~lanwiteh~
at 7:30 o'clock P.M.~ on Wednesday, June 6, 1962.
I1pon taking ro11 ca~l~ the following aldermen answered present:
Jacob ftuf~ Steve Romer Roy Edwards Kenneth Olson
Cecil Nave Harald W. Wilson Henry Kaiser Gerald L. Gass
The minutes of the pre~rious meeting were read. Motion way made by Ruff
and seconded by Kaiser that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried.
City Clerk presented certain bands for City Employees for approval, as
follows: Dorothy. P. B~uxidy, C~.ty Clerk; Ronald D. Bentsen, City rigineer; Burton
Gillette, Park Care~~ker; John Beven, Hilmar Waage, David K. Frank, and J. Lou
Franzen, radio operators. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded b~T Gass that these
bonds be approved. Nlotiom ~~~r~ed.
pity 'CZerk reported that the Department of Health, Ec3.ucation ~ W~lfar
had audited the records of the sewage Treatment Plant expenditures to d~,te~ and had
granted the second payment of ~1~5~3~~.~~«
Application for work was presented. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded
by Nave that this application be placed on file. Motion carried.
An Ordinance -~o be numbered #558 w~ pre~~nted for approval. This ordinance
concerns changes in the electrical inspection code. After discussions motion was made
by Ruff and seconded by Olson that copies of this ordinance lie made for the Mayor,
the pity Engineers and each alderman, so that triis may be s~.udied and either passed
or denied at the ne~€t m~etin.g. Motion carried.
This being the, time and place advertised for ~h~,opening of bids on certain
materials, the Mayor called upon the City Clerk ~o open and read the bids in the
order of their receipt, which was done as follows:

The Mayor referred these bids to the Street and alley '~ommitt~e, and the
Finance Committee, to work with the ?pity engineer. Ruff stated that he would like tm
have the City Engineer have a chance to study these bids, and called a special committee
meting for Friday ~venin~, June 8th, at 7:00 o' clock, ~?wM. The T~Zayor stated -ghat he
would like to have this committees have the pc~~Ter to ~.ct. Motion w~,s made to this eff~et by Ruff and seconded by Nave. Motion carri~d~
A letter was read from Judge R. FI. Sterrett, asking for permission to be
absent from the Stag at times during the months of Junes duly and August. Motion was
made by Kaiser and seconded by Ruff that permission be granted. Motion carried.
Health Officers report and the Library report for the month of May w~:re
presented. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Kaiser that these reports be approv-
ed. Motion carried.
Reports of the Polies Judge and reports of the Patrolmen were presented.
Motion was made by Edwards and seconded by QJ.son that these reports be approved.
Motion carried.

Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by wave that these claims b~ allowed. Niota_on carried.
Gene Barsness appeared before the council to state that he was concerned
about the water on Main Street. .
The Njayor and City Engineer to attend a meeting with the achool Board on
Thursday night about dra~na~e. It was suggested that the Gii~y Engineer figure the approximate cost of a Special ~mprov~ment District to get rid of same of the water
before it gets down town. The Mayor then appointed a committee to work on this
situation. ~Ison, chairman, Nave and Gass to work with the City engineer.
Letter was read from the ~%i.ty of fillings regarding a school of instruction
for swimming Pool and Fark personnels to be held on June 19th. 'City Ehgine~r asked attend, and the Pool closed vn that day as long as necessary. 2`wo cars to be
taken if necessary and gasoline mileage allowed. Ruff made the motions seconded by
Kaiser, that this be allowed. Motion carried.
Harold VanNice appeared before the 'council to ask whether or not he could
move in a building,, and fix it up for rental purposes. He was referred to the engi-
neert5 office to present specif'ications~ and purchase a permit.
License fees were discuss~;d. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Olson
that in the future, the office will pro-rate all new lic~ns~s, regardless of whether
or not the business is anew ones or an existing one. AZotion carried.
Thy Mayor stated that he had been in contact with the County Commissioners in regard to the d~veZopment of a park just outside of the pity lim3.ts,
Q1son reported that he had met with Nicholas, ~raston, and the City ~n~ineer,
in regard to complaints from some of the employe~5 that Earl brow was getting in too
much ~i. me. He suggested that a Nati oe fox W~.ter Plank Relief Man be mac3.~ out and
posted to be put out for bids. The City Engineer requested that a second notice be posted for relief man at the Sewage Disposal Plant. Ruff made this in the form of a
motions and it was seconded by 0)_son. lotion carried.
Olson r~port~d that he had a time slip signed by L~nhardt and okayed by
Gaston that he be allowed an extra x$1.09 per days ~'or acting as Poles e thief in the
absence of .Gaston. ~1son asked for Council opinion. After discussions Qlson recommended that this tsme slip be denied.
phis committee also recommended that vacatiwns for WatEr Plant and Police
personnel b~ taken at least one week at a time, and no less. Ntotion was made; and
seconded that the recommendations of the committee be approvede NIO~"i10I1 carried.
Olson also stated that-the gomcnittee on labor situations will meet with the Labor committee representatives from the employees, on Thursday evening, in the
Council. Chambers et 7.30 o'clock P.M.
Ruff reported that ground was in the process of being purchased consisting
of ten feet along the highway, e~cte~xiing thirty feet in the alley, in a triangular
shape at a cost of X125.00. City ~%ngineer to give the City attorney the property description.

Kaiser asked permission to leave the stag. Motion was made by Nave and
seconded by fluff that permission be granted. Motion carried.
Navy stated that we should start fencing; the sanitary land fill.
Romee reported on the water fountain. After discussi~n~ motion was made by
Ruff and seconded by Naves that the purch~.sing committee be authorized to buy a water
cooler for upstairs. Motion carried.
Romee reported on air-conditioning for the Library. AZotion was made by Ruff and seconded by Olson that the purchasing committee be authorized tv buy an air-
conditioning unit, to be paid for after July 1st, in the amount off' ~299.OO,les~
installation. Motion carried.
j Ruff' reported min certain e~tp~nses coming up at the Athletic Park in regard
' to the ligh-~s. He aa~_d that 21 lights were out.
Ruff reported that Mountain View Lane was a mud hole, and City Engineer was

instructed to block this street off until we care get some gravel in. Mayor stated
that as one side of this str.yet is out of the city l~.mits,~ the county should give us
some help.
Ruff asked if the city would ~o along with the Junior Chamber o~ Commence
to contract for X15.00 p~~r year for putting the flag up on holidays. Aft~:r dis-
cussion, motion was made by Edwards and seconded by alson that this be done. l~o~~.on carried.
Tt way mentioned that Russell Barr had purchased a permit for a duplex, but
that ~~9 hid since changed his plans. City Clerk stated that new plans should be
presented to the City ~n.gineerts caffice and credit giventto ham for the permit he hay
already purchased.
The Mayor asked for decision from the council regarding the naming of
Athletic Park to Parlor Fi~1d. In this connection a resolution is to be s~rawn upa
for pr~senta~ion at the next meeting.
Motion was then made by 01son and seconded by Kaiser that this resolution be drawn up changing the name of Athletic 'ark to Parker. Field. Motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the council at this tim~~
