A'regular meeting of the Gl.ty council of the City of Laurel, Montana
was held in the Council Chambers, and was called to order by Maycom John Beslanwitch,
at 7s3O o'clock F.M., on Tuesday, .May 16, 1962..
upon taking roll calls the following aldermen ~.nsw~red present.

Mayor Beslanwitch then i~.troduced the A1.dermen, ~i.ty Clerk, City Engineer,
City Attorney, the local }cress and Gazette reporter to the City Officials from the
School. He then asked the sehoo]. Mayor to intrcaduce his .city off"ic~.als. They are

Applications for work were presented. R~otmon was made by Ruff and seconded
by Nave ghat these applications be placed o~.f l~. Motion carried,
Certain cit~r reports were presented as follows: City ~l~rk~s ~a~h report,
trial bal.ancea Treasurer TS report, budget repor~~ and revenue report for'the month.
of April. Motion way made by Ruff and seconded by Romee ghat these reports be
approved. Motion carried.

By way of explanation, the Mayor explained that since Robert ~at9on had hurt
his back, he did not feel that he should do th3.s work any more, and was giving it up
.After discu~s3on~ R1a.f'f stated ghat the senior man should be entitled to first pr~f~r-
ence. Ruff then made the motion, geconded.by Nava, that George Behm be given the jobs
on thirty dayst trial, and ~ub~ect to h3.s ~;bil ty. Motion carried,
~3ty ~n~ineer Ron Bentsen was introduced and stated that he felt h~, would
enjoy our City.
. ~ Nacre reported that Mr. Nordstrom wanted to move. a house is~ on the from of
lots wh~r~ there i~ a small h ouse already, between A1d~r and Bich. After di~cu~sion, Mr. Nord~trum was told to take this matter to the honing Board of ~d~ustm~ant.
Romee, as chairman of the Purchasing ~ammitte~, stated ghat-the ccu~unit~ee
would like to recommend the purchase o~ a water fountain for the down stairs hal7.way,
at a cost of 187.~~ plus installations and two aircondit oning units for the 1.3.brery,
at a cost of x,997.00. Gays stated that-this was a very good price. Ru,~f stated tha~G he wanted to advertise for bids. Ruff thin made the motions seconded by Edwards, tk~at
r this matter be ref~rr~d back to the purchasing ccxnmittee, axed they shou7.d do some
shopping around. Motion carried.

Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
The Mayor asked for a report on the purchase of the ground needed in the
al1Py between Elm and Fir. Ruff reported that the committee has nothing definite
to report at this time.
Nave repor+ed on the signs regarding the clos~.ng of the garbage dump.
Nave reported on the signs in the alley in question at the last meting.
Ruff reported on the street just north of the Ball Fark. He stated that
trucks using this street are overloaded, and that the School District should help to
maintain this street. City Clerk way asked to call the Clerk off' the School Board and
ask her to bring this matter to the attention of the school Board at their next
meting.
Ruff reported that Barry O'Leary had covered the drain at First Avenue and
Maryland Laney This is a natural drain going across the School F'roperty~ and drains
from Maryland Lane down to 9th street. The Mayor stated that h~ would like to appoint
a committee to make a study of this. He then appoir~¢t~d Ruffs Gass and Nave, and asked
them to come back with a r~comm~ndation.
Ruff reported that the road in baale of the refinery was going bad, anal asked
tthat the County and the Refiner~T be asked to help in fixing up this road.
Riff reported on the bids on the material fi'or the sprinkling districts.
Ruff reported on streets. Resident engineer from Black & Veatch to ask drake-Herne to replace any streets that they are concerned with, in good. condition.
Mr. Henry Fox, Sr., appeared before the Council complaining about the
garbage cans from the trailer camp being placed on his property. The Mayor referred
this matter to the Street and x17.ey committee.
The Mayor made a report on deciding on a name for Athletic Field, and suggested
that the Council give some thought to naming this Field as Parker Field, and this
matter to be discussed at ~ later meeting.
Ruff reported on the Episcopal Church ewer. He stated that the City would
do the digging, when the backhoe is not busy. The Church to stand the cost of the operator. He stated that this is agreeable with the ~%hurch Committee. The c ommitt~e
also rec anmended that a manhole be donated to the church, if we have nne available.
Otherwise ask the Churc~z 8ommittee whether or not the City should buy one, and thy:
Church pay for it. The Mayor referred this back to the committee to investigate if this
would be agreeably.
Mayor B~slanwitch reported that the Deed to the Seven Xcres of ]and for the
Sanitary Land Fill has been received.
There being no further business to come before the Council at this time,
motion was duly ma,~e and seconded that the naeetin~; be adjourned, and turned over to
the City Officials of the School. Motion carried.
