Upon taking ro11. call, the following aldermen answered present: Jacob Ruff Steve Romer Gerald L.Gass Henry Kaiser Roy ~ward~ Kenneth f3lson Cecil E. Nave Harold Wilson T3~e minutes of the previous meeting were r~.ads Motion made by Muff and Seconded by Nave that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried. A report from the Zoning Board of Adjustment was. read as follows: ~,equest from Elsie A. Milligan 618 Juniper Avenue, to be permitted to have a beauty Shop on the front porch of her home was granted. Request from H. Helter- bran to be permitted to build a Z2.-foot addition to his garage on hip alley prap~r~y line way denied. Letter from the laurel Volunteer F3xe U~partment approving the application of Richard Black as a member of the fire department to replace A[. H. Sterrett was read. Motion was made by Ruff and s~cond~d by Olson that this application be approved. Motion carried. P.::.- I T,ibrary report for the month of 1~pril wag presented. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Kaiser that this report be approved. Motion carried. Reports of the patrolmen were presented and motion was made by Edwards and seconded by 01son that these repor~~ be approved. Motion carried. Applications for employment with the City of Laurel were presented. Mo-~ion eras made by Ruff-and seconded by Navy that these applications be ~l~.ced on file. .Motion carried. City C1Prk turned over estimates for a water f'ountain~ and air conditionir~ f'or the library to the Chairman of the purchasing comm3.tte~. Several delegates repr~s~nt3.ng the Episcopal Church regarding sewer ling appeared before the council. After much d ~cussion~ Bradley suggested that the- ' Mayor appoint a committee to work with the members of the Church. The Mayor then, appointed R~.ff as chairman, Gass and Cecil Nave,. Motion was then made by Kaiser and seconded by Romee that this committee approved and given authority ~o act. Dick Metzger to work with this committee also. Motion carried and a meeting way ' set up for Thursday.even~ng, May 3rd at 7:00 F.M. Mayor Beslanwitch reported ghat Ron Bentsen would be .our new engineer, axid he made the appoin~m~nt« Motion was made by Ruff and s~concled by 01.son that this appointment be approved. Mr. ~entzen to be ready to start to worl~ on May 1l~, i962. Mayor reported on the Venturi Tubes and the fact that it w3.11 not be delivered until June 16, 1962. . P~Iayor reported on the bridge on Railroad Street. -Drake-H~;nne to do the work and the pity to pay for the material, etc. Ruff reported on the. alley between Elm and Fir. Nave ~.~~ed for a report on the closing of the old City clump. ~t was reported that signs are nom being made to inform people where to go with their trash. City Clerk to write Barry t~~T,eary, Inc., a.nd ask them to start word an Q.I.A. X91 as soon as possible. Kaiser reported on the sewer charged, during the summer.. After di~cu~sion,.. this matter was referred bask to.committe~ for further study. Discussion on advertising for bids.~or materials for sp3~~.nkling str~~ts. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Nave that the 'C'hief of Police be authorized to erect three signs in that alley. Motion carried. Discussion on the Police Car. Chief of Police Gaston was instructed to ~n~orm tine pa-cro.tmen to shut the car off' when it is parked in front of the Police Station. Discussion on dean-Up week. This was set as beginning Niay 1st through 26th. Motion to phis effect was made by fluff and seconded by Navy. Motion carried.
