A regular meeting of the City Couneii of the City of Laurels Montana
was held in the Council Ct~amber~ and way called to order by Mayor John Besla~witeh
at 7:30 o'clock P. M., o~ Tuesday, September 3, 1963.
Upon taking roll call the following aldermen answered present:
Jacob Ruff William J. Palm Gerald L. Gass Roy Edward
Lcidie Leuthold E. H. Eber$viller, Sr. Kenneth Olson Cecil Nave
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Motion was made by Ruff
and seconded by NavE that the minu~e~ be approved as read. Motion carried.
Cer~Gain reports of the City of Laurel were presented. Thy Library Report
motion was made by R~.ff and secand~d by Nave th~~ this report be approved. Mmtian
carried. Request was presented for Riverside FiaZl~ for all day Chtu~ch 5ervi~es
for New Years Day. S~ was the opinion of the Counc3.1 that as the hall is rented
for New Years Eve th~~ it could not be cleaned up in time, ar~d to ~ugg~st ghat the Church ehang~ their date to the Sunday before or the Sunday after New Year~~
Eve. Motion was made to this effect by Ruff and seconded by Ebersvi.ller and the
motion carried.
Leiter was read from the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department sta~in~ that
Alfred H~rmanson had been elected to fill the vacancy erected by Harlan R.u~sell on the Fire D~partme~t. Motit~n wa:~ made by Ebersviller and seeond~d by Pa].a1 th~.t
this appointment be apprav~d. Motion e~rried.
Report of the P~7.ice Judge ws~~ presented. Motion way made by Olsen
and seconded by Edwards that this report be approved. Motion carried.

Ru~'~ r~pvrted that the stucco job at the S~wag~a Disposal Plant was riot entirely
satigfacto~y, and that payment should be held up until adjustment is made. Motion
was made by Ruff and seconded by Olson that thi.~ claim be allowed after phis ad-
~t~stment. Mot3.on carried. Otherwise Ruff made the motion seconded by Ebersv3.ller
that the rest of the claims be allowed. Motion carried.
Reports of the Patrolmen were presented. Motion was made by Olson and
seconded b~ Ebersviller, that these reports be approved. Motion carried.
Letter of recommendation from Weldon B. Lie, a for~?er Mayor of Cut
Bank regarding the qualifications of John J. Daley to be oiar new City Engineer
was read. After discussion, during which time the Mayor sated that the salary would b~ X600.00 per month, the Mayor then made the appointment. lotion was
made by Olsmn and seeond~d by Nave that this appointment b~ approved. Motion
carried. Thy City Clerk to inform Mr. Daley to come to work no later than Sept.
16th, if at all pos~ibl~.
J. J. Parker chairman of the recreation board appeared before the Council to report on the swimming pool. He asked ghat the Mayor ~.ppoint the Park
Board to meet with him and go over some correspondence he has r~c~ived. (tuff
made the motion that the Park Committee meet w~.th the Recreation Board to go
through some of the problems. Motion carried.
Ebersviller reported on our insurance.
The Mayor then appointed Ebersviller and Ruff as an insurance committee
to make a complete in.v~stigation of this insurance.
Insect Control program was discussed. Ebersviller~.Nave and Palm to
serve on this C02T1M~.t~@E•
Ruff asked the City Engineer to get information together_on how much
time is being spent on the street sweeping program.
Ebersvill~r r~port~d on meeting with Sage Engineering, and stated that
the Council should wait for the new Engineer be~'ore making any recommendations regarding planning.

of the 3.st day of October. City Clerk to write Mr. Daley and ask that he come
to Laurel as goon as possible.
Palm stated that the Council should begin considering the purchase of
a new baek~io~. Motion was made that Palm Edwards and Ruff act ar> a committee to
look into such a purchase. Motion carried.
Gass reported that the lightning had knocked out a 100-horse power
motor at the ptamp houses and we are using a borrowed one. He suggested that the
water committee meet with him at the pzamp house shortly after lts00 o'clock, P. M.
Motion was then mmde by Olscsn and seconded by Nave that the grater committee be
empowered to take action ~n this matter. Motion carried.
There being no further business to comps before the Council at this sts-
sion, motion was then made and s~:conded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion
carried.
