A regular meeting of the G3.~y Coune:~l of the City of Laurel, Montarr~a~
was held in ~M.e Coa~neil Chambers, and was called to order by P~ayor John Beslan-
~uritch~ at 7=30 o~clock~ P. M.~ on Tuesday, September 196.

Minutes of the regular meting of August 17th, 19b,~~ were read. Motion
was made by Parker and secc~neie~. by Bradford that the a~3.nutes be approved. Motion
carried.
Minutes of the special meeting of August 18th i9b5~ wire read. Motion
was made by Black ~,nd seconded by Ruff that these mirnztes be approved. Met~.on

Motion was made by Ru£f and seconded by Yovetich that the elaim5 be a7.lowed. Mo-
tion carried.
Alik Madill appeared before the Cauncil to ask that he be per~~ted a dip in front of hip homy instead of a c~zlvert because the culvert does not carry
array the grater. His address is at I~th avenue and 7th str~~t. After diset~s~ion~
this matter way referred to the street committee' and,~he City Engineer to cem~
back with a recommendation to the City Council.
Mr. one Knaw appeared before the Cozancil in regard to two way radios, _ and r~qu~steci the Council to ask questions if they had any, During the discu~-
~ion~ it was ~uggestea tn~.t 3 radios b~ for the water department, (one for Daley~s
trucks one for Tinnes~ truck, and one for the engineer~~ office. The other to be
a citizen"s band radio for the auxiliary police. After much discussion, motion
was made by Bradford and seconded bg Ruff that the Council authorize the purehas~
of the four radios and equipments ar~d that the purchase be r~f~rred to the pur- ehasing committee with authority to set. Mation carried.
Cer~ta3n persons appeared before the Council in regard to their petition 'to come rota the city lim3.ts if they could have city seer, and di~cuss~on as to
the cast, and hour this et~uld be financed. There are 18 building sues to die on
this line, with only five washing to come into the City at this time. It way sug-
aested that t~i~ line which would cost in the neighborhood c~~' X3,375.50 be divided
by the 1$ building site, wgth the City standing the cost from the Sewer Improve-
ment Fund at the present time. This would mean cost to each property owner of X187.53 for the sewer tap. The City to charge any ~hiture persons tapping ofl to
the line at least this amount. There was much discussion as to this item, since
most of +he Council. was not fully informed. Motion way made by Bradford' seconded
by Black that this sewer be put in. Motion carried with ftuf't' and Yov~tich voting nnoir
The Mayor reported on the special meeting requested by the Civil Befense
and the County Commis~ioner~. Since there has been no further word of this mat-
ter9 the Mayor then appointed Bradfard~ Edwards and P~..rker to look into th3.s fur-
th~r and. try to get some aid of some kind. Tt was then decided that this be a
four man committee with the Chairman of the strut committee also.
Z"he Mayor reported several r~qu~sts to have a through street going East
and West through Laurel. It was the opin:Lon of some of th.~ aldermen and the pol-
ice chief that the State Highway was enough of a through street, and that this is
not necessary. This matter turned over t~ the polio committee.

The Mayor reported that letters had been sent out regarding h~dge~~
tree~~ ~teetera that were not in aceortlanee with our ordinances, and ask that
this matter be followed up.
There was discussion a~ to certain stores placing merehandi~~ on sale
on the sidewalk right after the flood. Olson Mated that this was more or less
of an emergency, and that otherwise he wo~zld reeorrimend that tY~e ordinance be
enforced.
Parker stated t~iat a Mr. Rehling would offer ~5Q.~0 for the West Half
of Lot 5 3n Block 12 of Laurel Realty Subdivision which belongs to the City of
Laurel. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded try Yovetich that this properly be
advertised far sale. Motion carried.
Black reported that the City-County Planning Board had a meeting at
which they had elected John Daley City Engineer, as president, and Thomas L. Bradley as Secretary. Daley and Lradley to draft a set of by-laws governing this
Board.
}Mack reported a certain propert~r containing 3? acres more or less which
wi11. have water in it affer the new highway goes through. Olson and Black are to
contact the F`I.sh and Game Commission who tiaill send a r~presen~ative if there are any possibil3.ties.
Black reported on th.e sugar beet dump.
Olson reported on the Chimes. at the S.t. Johns Lutheran Churcha on which
there had been a complaint. After discussion, 01son made the motion seeanc~ed by edwards that the Council disregard the protest of the chimes. lotion earri~:d.
Ruff' stated that the water faucet by the old city baxn should be fixed.
There was disc~zssion of the radio operators wY~o did not get nflr d~sir~
a raise in dimly of ~96~, and their request to b~ allowed an additional. week va- cation with. pays retroactive to July 1, 196. Motion was made by Olson and se-
conded by Ruff that this extra week vacation be allvv~red. Motion carried.
Bradford reported on hard hats.
Chief of Polices Gaston, requested that his personal radio that he in- stall¢d in his private ear be narrow-banded. This tiaill be at a cost of X35.00 to
l~0.~0. After discussion, it was the opinion of the ~Cc~uncil that this request be
gran-r.~d.
City ~'n~ineer asked permission to purch~.~e some water pipe. Motion was
made by Ruff and seconded by Parker that one-half car load of pitae be purchased. Motion car~riecl.
The City Clerk was requested to write letters to the Mayor of Billings
the Yellowstone Cqunty Commissioners, and the Krug Brothers for their help in
Lat~e1'~ Haar disaster f1o~d on August 22nd.
There being no further business 'to come befe~re the City Council at this
