present, the following action was taken by the
Cathy reported to the committee that Mel Williams is requesting
that the city pay the recording fee for his cemetery lots. In the
past, he purchased lots at two different times and had each deed
recorded separately, at a cost of $ 6.00 each. When his wife died
and we staked out the grave, we found that there were an additional
five graves available in this row that were not shown on the map.
Mel decided to purchase the additional graves but the numbering was
off so we voided his old deeds and issued a new one.
Motion by Albert Ehrlick to pay the recording fee for Mel
Williams' deed, seconded by Lloyd Shay. Motion carried.
In regard to a question, Cathy stated that we have set aside both
ends of every other row for trees in Section J.
Sue stated that there is a problem when the monuments companies are
setting stones and do not connect the cement from stone to stone.
This leaves a small portion of grass between the graves and it is
difficult to maintain. Cathy will write a letter to the monument
companies informing them of this.
In regard to spraying weeds, Chuck said we are working toward
having a spring and fall application. If we can do this
consistently for three years, we could then just spray in the fall
and this would control the weeds.
Comments about the unsightly weeds that grow in the gutters and
roads in the cemetery. Sue said she would like to use a ground
sterilizer to permanently kill them.
Lee asked whether any action has been taken regarding putting a
road around the east side of the Catholic section and the newly
opened Section J? There is a dirt road but as the cemetery is
expanding, it will be necessary to put in a road.
Cathy will report this ~o Jim Flisrand and hopefully it can be
looked into for the next ~udget year.
The deteriorating condition of the curb, gutters and roads were
discussed. Sue stated that the poor condition of the curbs is due
impart to the fact that we are moving equipment over them all the
time. At some point in the future when they are replaced, she
would like to see a different style of curb installed that will
facilitate the moving of equipment.
Discussion regarding the need to acquire additional land. Lloyd
stated that at one time, Ike Schessler was going to give the city
18 acres of land, direc~lynorth of the existing cemetery but this
fell through.
Discussion regarding the land to the west of the cemetery shed
which is owned by Bob Rosselot.
It was stated that years ago a cemetery caretaker planted trees
along the very south side of the cemetery. Over the years,
comments have been made that this land belongs to Ike and is not
part of the cemetery. Chuck stated that if it is a problem, maybe
we need to have it surveyed to determine ownership.
Sue stated that the elm trees in the cemetery are dying from a
disease. Sue and Bill are cutting a lot of dead branches from the
trees each year.
The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy"Gabrian
