The Rickard/Lehman family lost premature twin babies. They were
cremated and buried separately about two month apart. The family
requested that the individual containers be set in one larger
container and be reburied.
Discussion regarding the fee and Lee said that no permits would be
required since they were cremations. The committee felt that the
family could dig them up and rebury them under the supervision of
the caretaker or the caretaker could do it with the family present.
Lee thought the glass container was somewhat fragile and the city
would assume no responsibility if it was broken when digging it up.
Motion by Norman Orr to charge a $ 25 fee and to let the
family do the digging under the caretaker's supervision or the
caretaker will do the digging with the family present, seconded by
Bill Staudinger. Motion carried.
VETERAN SECTION - FLOWER POTS
Cathy received a request from a family to set a flower container in
the old veteran section. At this time there are no pots in the
veteran sections.
Discussion and Lee stated the zinc pots they sell now cost $ 30.00.
The American Legion sets the headstones as one of their projects
and he suggested that we possibly use a 3" piece of PVC pipe and
set it in the concrete when the foundations are poured.
Lloyd will check with the Legion and the committee felt it would be
nice if one pipe was set on the same side for each stone. It was
stated that the PVC pipe could eventually fill from debris and
grass clippings but the city would not assume responsibility for
cleaning it out.
Motion by Norman Orr to allow flower containers to be placed
on the sides of the veteran stones, seconded by Chuck Rodgers.
Motion carried.
FLOWERS & ETC. PLACED ON GRAVES
Cathy received a complaint from a resident regarding all the
windsocks, toys, scarecrow, faded plastic flowers, etc. that are
being placed on the graves.
Cathy called several cemeteries in the area and reported how they
are handling this type of thing.
Discussion and it was stated that we have also had compliments
about how nice the cemetery looks.
Sue stated that the cemetery is for the living and she is only
concerned from a maintenance stand point. We have a lot of poles
that have been placed in the grass right next to the concrete
foundation and the mower has to go around them, often leaving long
grass by them.
It was the consensus of the board that our cemetery looks nice but
we need to address the situations where the poles or objects are in
the way of mowing. It was suggested that a letter be sent to
individuals who violate this, allowing them time to move the poles
or have them placed in the concrete. This will be discussed early
next spring.
Discussion regarding trees and it was stated that we have a lot of
little evergreens that need to be transplanted. Cathy stated that
she would like to see us use some of these in the designated area
of the cemetery but that we would have to make a commitment to
watering them well until our ditch water is available.
The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Gabrian
