A regular m~s~ting of the City Couneil o~ the City off' Laurel, Montana,
was held in the Cotzriail Chambers, and was brought to order by President of the
Couneil~ Jacob Ruff, in the absence of the Mayors at 7x30 o~elock~ P. M.~ on
3'ttesday' July 21a 1964.
Upon t~.k3.rag roll calls the following aldermen an~wer~d px°~sent:

The minutes of the previcaus meeting of July 7th were read. Motion was m~d~ by Ebersviller and s~cand~d by Olson that the minutes be approved as

Minutes of the grevious special me~~ing of duly 2f~th were read. Mo-
tion was made by Qlson and secoxxied by Leuthold that thss~ minutes b~ approved

A litter ~ra~ read from d. J. Parker, Chairmen of the Recreation Board
~ugge~ting that the pool be covered with scsme start o~ wire mesh' since they pool

was d~~id~d ~o budget X200.00 for ma~e~ial and ~1~0.00 for labor to da this fob.
Motion was then made b~ ~bersviller and s~,conded by 01son that this amount b put in the budget and then referred to the Park Com~nitt~e. Motion carried.
Motion was then made by Palm and seconded by Ebersviller that Mr.
Parker be informed that the COUnei1 i~ in favor of his suggestion, and that he
should contact the Park Committee, which will then repor,~ back to the Council.
Mastion carried.
City Clerk reported a lift of X355.67 far the Perpetual Care Fund of
the Cemetery given by Nets Vordahl in his w3.11~ by Vera Anderson. Mo~io~a was
made by Olson and s~eonded by Ebersvill~r that a card of thanks be sent to
Vera ~ndersnn for this gift. Motion carried.:.
Bi11 Bray and several others appeared before the Council to d~mon- strat~ on the city m~.ps where th~;y would like to have curb-to-curb blacktop
and the big ditch covered and the Richardson ditch re-tao~t~d. He ~~ated that
he world like to have a committee appointed to look into costs acid possibil-
i~ies. Ruff then appointed Naves Palm, Ebersvill~r and Olson to this commit-
tee. Bray then said that in cage this could not be done this year, or i~' this
was impog4ible, t~s~y would like to get in a sprinkling petition for the 28~:•~at~ ~o ~e p~.aced this year if possible and if note to be the first one r~xt apr~u g.
Motion w~.s thin made by 41son and seconded by Palm that this petition be ap-
prov~d, provided a special improvement district for the whole thing could not
be worked out. Motion carried.
Ebersviller reported that the Ma~ror~ who way absent, had thought that the dormer City Trea~urer~ Edgmond., could handle dust oril.y th~+ Treasurer s
duties and his regular 3ob~ too until the end of hip term ~.t which time an-
other Treasurer would take office. Ruff stated that the Council had already
accepted his resignation, and must now take b~.ck the a~ceptanee. Palm Mated
that Mrs. Fisher did not want to fill the vacancy, and that h~ would not re-
seind his second to the motion accepting Edgmond~s resignation. After di~cus- sion on this matter, since it has been agreed between the members of tie office
force and the Mayor ~Q try the new system for at least thrity days, motion was
then made by Ebersviller and seear~led by Palm that the Council approve the
Mayors appointment of John Ecigmond for the City TreasurerTS fob only, for a
thirty-day trial period beginning August lst~ 19d1t, since F.~lginond is on vac~.-
tion at the present time:' Motion carried.

Edwards stated that prier to Centennial wEek, two strips were painted
across main ~tre~t to b~ used as a pedestrian crossing. He says that they
sho~zld eith~.r be marked or painted out. After discussions since this is a
State Highway, City Engineer is to be instructed to paint them out.
Qu~s~tion was raised about the Burling~Gon ar~.d N. P. trains sometimes blocking both aros~ing~ to the South Sidi at the same time. After discussion,
motion was made by Leuthald and seconded by Ebersviller that the City Clerk
cari~e the Burlington requestit~ that at least one access road to Laurel be
kept open. Motion carried.
Palm re~por~ed on violations of City Ordinances regarding low-hanging
trees overhanging hedges etc. that involved about 95;~ of the population of
'~',~1C ~',11'i~e
Gass asked permission to leave the State. Motion was made by Palm
and seconded by Olson that permission b~ granted. Motion carried.
Ruff sta~~d that the City is out of essentialub~ and asked whether
or not the Council cared to purchase some more. After discussion' oration was

u~d. Motion carried.
Ruff opened the ~ub~ect of the Highway going over our Water 1i.ne.
After discu5~ion motion was made by Gass and seconded by Palm that the City
file an in~unetion again$t the proper authorities to either stop construction
of the highway, ar grant the easement required in order to move the City wader
line. Motion carried.
Leuthold suggested re routing of certain traffic. Motion was then
made by him and s~±conded by Falco that the City Clerk write Paul Johnson, Re-
gional Manager of the Montana State Highway Commission expla3.ning the problem.
Motion carried.
Because of the fact that there. have been several. drownings in Mont- an~, due to persons going rimming in municipals pools after they are cl.osed~
it w~.s suggested that the P41ice be asked to make an inspection of the ~wi~-
ming pool several ti~r~es a nigh. Poss3.blyuthey could be given a key. Motion
was made by Olson and s~scond~d by Nave that the Polies be so instructed. Mo-
tion carried.
Ruff reported that the garbage situation is getting out of hand.
Calvert suggested writing a t~Letter to the Editor" spelling out this situation
to the Public.
There being no further busir~ s~ to come before the Council at this
time, motion was duly made and seconded that the meting be adjourned. Motion
carraed.
