A regular meting of the City Counc3.l of the City of Laurel, Montana, was held a,i~ the Council Chambers and was called to order by Mayor John B~slan- witch at ?:30 o'clock P. M., on Tuesday March 3, 196E1. Upon taking ro11 call, the following alderman answered presents Jacob Ruff E. H. Ebersv~.ller, Sr. Roy Edwards fi.,~e3.1 Nave Kenneth 41son Ed Leuthcald Wm. Palm The minutes of the previous meeting were read. After correetic~ns, namely, that the new patrolman, after the second six months, receive a regu].~r patrolman salary instead of ~~.13.0~, motion way made by Ruff and seconded by Ebersviller that these minutes b~ approved. Motion carried.. The ~'ir~ Department asked ghat the Council approve the sa].~ of the old fire true~C to the Refinery for X2,500.00, to b~ delivered to the Refinery after the city receives their new truck abort July 1~ 1961.x. There was some discussion. Motion was made by Ebersvill~r and seconded by Ruff that this sale be approved. Motion carried. Letter was read frcun the Volunteer Fire Department as follows; Mayor & ~i.ty Couneii City of Laurel Laurel, Montane Gentlemen. inclosed. is the application of C. J. Brohaugh for membership in the fire department. We believe Mr, Brohaugh will make a good fireman and voted him into the department at otar regular meeting on. Wednesday evening, F~bruaxy 19, 1964. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Palm that this application be placid on file:. Lotion carried. The library Report and H~;alth Offieer~s Report for the month of Feb- ruary were presente~k. Motion was made by Ruff and seconded by Eber~vil.ler that these reports be approved. Motion carried. Upon taking roll call vote, all alderman present voted ~~Aye" and paid fh~ei~iia~~~:.w~~ was de- clared passed a.nd adopted. Thy Law Enforcement Academy is co~ii.ng up May 14th thrca h May 2~~d, and Gaston requests the Council to approve send3.ng Gerke. Th.~re was ~or~~ discussion. Olson suggested that Gerke attend half on has own time and half on City time ,and if he didn't approve of this, thin Minton Anderson would be sent. Mo- tion carried. Reports of the Pa~srolm~n were pr~sent~d for approval. Motion was made by Olson and seconded by Edwards that these reports be approved. Motion carried. The streets in the Third Ward were discu.$s~d. The f)utlook i~ to in- form people that if they donut want their streets fixed and pay for its that only their share of stre~~ money would be spent to fix the struts. If they ga along with it, they will seal grid chip the Avenue$ and coat the streets. Motion was made by Nave and seconded bg Leuthold that petitions be drawn up by the office force, and they be ~tircul.ated in the Third Ward. Motion carried. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel En~ine~r stated that there is no min holy wh~r~ the sewer ling b~nd~ on Second Avenue and ~±v~nth Street' and them ~houid be one wh~;re the l.in~: bends. R~.ff made a mot3.on that a man hole be placed h~r~, seconded by Ebers- viller. Motion carried. Mayor brought up the Montana Municipal I,~agt~.e M~etin~. He ask~ci that h~ be authorized to st~.y over for a Mayor~~ meeting the next day and that Ruff be authorized to go with him. Motion way made by ~dward~ and s~cond~d by Ebers- viller that they be authori~~;d to go ~o this mee~i~g. Mtr~ion carried. The Council authorized tY~~ Mayor end Ruff to vote against Day- li~ht if the question way bro~.ght up. They ~w3.11 vote far it if i:~ yis ~ta~ewide. ~~~r Old shed, etc. in ~.ll~y~ and such were disc~~sed. Some of these are fire ha~ard.~ ar~d are a dis~rae~ to the com~mr~r~.ity. Z'Y~e Chief of Police, the Firs Chief, and the Chairman of th~* Alley Co~nittee, Nave, are ~v call on th~~e people - and tell them to cl~~,n up their p1ae~ or action would b~ taken. They are also to eondemr~. all places that are fire hazards. It was suggested that the old Gi.ty Barn be fixed up also.. Live music in bars w~.s disc~ss~d. ThE ordinance states no live music at any time. If th~;,Council made an ~xe~ption,, a 5t3.pulation ~o this effect would have to be added. It was decided to 1ea~re the ordinance like it i~, and to make no exceptions whatsoever. Centennial Business was discussed. St seems the Legion would like to put a biMgo tent up in the N. P. parks ~.nd others had asked that they b~ al- lowed to put m~rcharidise and such out on the aidef~alks during the Cc~ntennia]. Week. This to be left up to the Centennial Committees Police Committee and the Chief of Police. Ebersviller brought up bids for insurance. ~inee no one hay been in to pick up the specifications it was moved by Ruff and seconded by Eber~vil- ler that the City Clerk mail out ads to some of the Insurance Brokers. Motion carried. Ebersviller asked permission to le~.v~ the stag . Pe~rm3ssion granted. Leuthold brought up the caretakers house at the Cemetery. Ruff ex- plained that it is ~anocuppi~d at the ~3me~ end that Mr. Thomson i~ handli.ng the hiring of a new caretaker. Leuthold suggested that they Council bs more conc~rr~sd with what the Library was doing, ~~.anning to da ate. Bradley explained that the Library Board handles most of the business concerning the Library. It was decided that Leuthold attend the Library Board meetings and work with ~h~±m and lit them mow that the Council is interested« Palm brought up water lines 3.n the Fourth W~xd. Same discussion.
