A regular meting of the City Cc?uncil of the City of Laurel, I~ontan~., was held in the Council Chambers and was called to order by Mayor John Be~lanwitch,
at 7s3(' otclock, P.M., on Tuesday, June 7, 1966.
Upon taking roll call, the following aldermen ans~rered present:

The minutes of the precious meeting were read. Motion was m~.de by
. Olson and seconded by Yovetich that the minutes be approved as read with the
exception of the deadline yet for the curb and gutters to b~ finish~d,b~:
changed to December 3Z, 19bb. Motion earri~d.
Certain reports were presented. Bradford made the motion the Police
Judge Report and Patrolman Report be accept~:d end Edwards seconded. Motion
carried. Olson made the motion the Cash Report b~ approved and Edwards seconded.
Motion carried.

Olson made the motion the claims be approved and Edwards seconded. Motion carr3.ed.

The City Clerk read a l~tt~±r from Willard E. Fraser ~e~ardin~; a dinner
meeting at the ~3illin~s A.i.rport on Thursday, June 9, at 7:0(? o~clock, P.M., to discuss Civil Defense problems. The Mayor asked Bradford tc~ attend the meeting,
and also Dick Black i£ he could make it.
A letter from the Secretary-Treasurer, Ken Olson, of the Vol. Firs
Department was read asking the council to approve the appointment of David Ruff
in the abseric~ of Louis ~teckelburger. Olson made the motion the Council approve the appointment and Bradford seconded. Motion carried.
A l~tt~r of resignation was read from Carol Sands, effective July 13,
196b. Bradford made the motion the council accept her resignation and Blacl~
seconded the motion. Motion carried. Yovetieh made the motion that a letter of
thanks and recommendation b~: gent to Carol, and Parker seconded. Motion carried.
Petitions were presented as follows

t~Te, the undersigned property owners, hereby petition and cons~;nt that the City Council off' the Gity of Laurel, create an additional sprinkling
District on THIRD At.:?ENU~: FROM MARYLAND LANE TO MOUNTAIN VIED LA?~TE for the
purpose of paving street shoulders from the 2~.~ center mat to thy, existing
curb with necessary grading thereto, etc., and carrying signatures of 93~
of the propert~r owners involved. Motion was made by Bradford and seconded b~
Gass that this petition b~ a.pproved. Motion carried.
PST ITIO~T
We, the undersigned pro~~ert~ owners, her~:by petition and consent th~..t
the City Gouncil of the City of Laurel, Montana create an additional Sprinkling
District on ~'S,M .AVENUE FROA~ NtAI~T STREET T~ S~VF;NTH STREET for the purpose of
paving strut shoulders from the 2l~~ center mat to the existing curb with the meces~ary grading thereto, etc., and carrying signatures of 7(?~ of the property
owners involved. Motion was made by fluff and seconded by Black that this
petition be approved. Motion carried.
Victor Hargett addressed the Council about adopting the Montana
Pl~ambin~ Code along with the National El~etrical Code. After much discussion,
the Counci3. was in agreement that without the completed, written, ordinance
at hand, the matter could not be voted upon. at this time. A special meeting 3.s
to be called. ~.t a later date.
Dave Powers also addressed the Council stating that the State will
contribute a beacon light to the city aixport ~.t no cost to the city. Gass
made the motion to accept the beacon and Edwards s~cond~d the motion. Motion
carried.
Clinton Anderson appeared before the Council with a brief report on
hip two week schooling at the Montana Police Academy. H~ thanked the Council
for sending; him and added that he found the course to be intresting and very
profi-Gable to him, knowledge wisp.
Jake Ruff presented his letter of resignation effective as of d~axi~ 19b6. Yavetich m~c1e the motion. to accept the resignation and Bradford
seconded and the motion carried.

Yovetich made three nominations for Rtaff~s replacement as Alderman of
the lit War. d, they are as follows P. B. Marvin' Henry Kaiser, and John
Eb~rsviller. Ruff made the motion that nominations be closed and Olson seconded.
Motion carried. Vohs were cast by ~ecr~t b~.llot, with a unanimous vote of the
Council, Henry Kaiser was elected. President of the Council will b~ voted on later.
-Bradford reported on plac3nq a stop sign on the dump road. This
matter way referred to the Police Committee. He also stated that he was pleased
with the job Frank Graves is doing at the dump.
Bradford also reported on making a parking lot on the 6Q0 block on
Alder Lane next to the pee w~~ baseball park, b~eau~e of complaints o~ residents
in this area of people occuping parking space in the street while attending the
baseball dames. This matter way referred to the City Engineer.
Bradford suggested pvrchasin~ reloads, which can be bought for 2 or 3 cents each, to be used for target practice for the Police Department. This
matter will b~ tak~;n up later.
Gass requested permission to leave the state next w~~k. Ruff made the
motion that he be allowed to do so and Yovetich seconded. Motion carried.
Edwards reported there is to b~ a Civil Defense rr~eeting ~o be held in
the Council Chambers June 19b6, at 7:Q0 otelock, P.M., to discus a lflcation
for afall-out shelter for employees and City Government.
Qlson reported the Civic Committee will m~~t next weep.
Black r~po~°tP~. that the children patronizing Bob Lo~fellts pool hall
were parking their b~.c~cles on the sidewalk in front of the establishment and
by doing so are obstructing the sidewalk. Thy mayor appointed Black to make
a stud, of the situation and make a recommendation at the next meting.
Parker reported that there are large hole in the street leading onto the highway or. the east side of town, naming Date and. Cottonwood. The City
t~ngineer eras instruced to look into this matter.
Yovetich reported on the incapability of the ~torr~ drain . The Mayor
appointed Yovetich, Black and Edwards to the ck into what can be done about this
problem and rep4r~ back at the next meting.
Yovetich also reported he had several complaints about unsightly
weedy on private property. After much discussion it was decided that since
the weeds on private property nothing can be dons at this time.
Ycatretieh reported the gravel on 8th Avenue, across from the school, was washed away b~ the flood last year, and asked the Council to do something
about this matter. City engineer was appointed to look into this matter.
The Mayor presented a committee; change as follows Olson is Chairman
of the Finance Committee. Bradford is Chairman of the Police Committee, Parker
is on the Finance Committee, and Henry Kaiser on the Street and Alley Committee.
Yovetieh reported he had a complaint from Jim Huff that De Carla
Cmnoco Station had placed a sign next to the gutter on the highway. the i~a~or
turned this matter over to the ~'o~.ice :committee.
Bradford requested permission to leave the state June 18, 1966. Gass
made t,h~ motian h~ be allowed to do so and Yovetich seconded the motion. Motion
carried.
}3raciley requested a. raise, along with other city employes, for the
City Attorneyts fob. The request was turned over to Ken 01~on, Chairman of the
I~abor ATegotiation~ Committee .
Olson reported it way the Labor Negotiations Committee reco~m~ndation
that the City Esrgineer be given a ~1(?.~0 raise a month. Yovetieh made the motion that the recommendation be accepted and Gass seconded. Motion c~.rried.
G~.ss reported that Pets Thompson would 3.ike to have permission from the
Council tc~ use some 8t~ piping owned by the Water Department. .Olson made: the
motion that Thompson b~ allowed to use this piping at the approval of the dater
Department and Bradford seconded. Motion carried.
Pete Thompson addressed the Council with a report that Kiwani~ Park
floods over everytime it rains. This matter was turned over to the Strut ar~i.
Park Comma_ttee with the assistance of the Cit~r Engineer.
Edwards reported the t~:nnis court had been repaird, and some materia~g were contributed bar the Refinery.

?3radford suggested that the Gity do something about spraying the
tree in town for worms. After much digcu~sion, the Council way in agr~em~nt
that since there are pe~sple in town who earn a living spraying tries and who
his purchased a City Li~c~~~ to do so, the City will nmt comp€~te against them.
Eciward5 reported that the Council wag in agreement that Lyle Jones,
Chairman of the recreation Committee, be slotted $~25.p0 a month for the months
of June, July, and Aug~a~t for work he is doing at the swimming; pool.
Them being no further business to come before they Council at th9.s tim~~ motion was duly made ~.nd secanded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion eaxried.
