A regular meeting of the City Council of the +City o~ Laurel, Mont~n~.,
was held in the Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor Kenneth E. Olson, at 7.30 o'clock, P.M., on Tuesday, August 20, 1968.
Upon taking roll call, the following Aldermen anr>~ered present:
Richard Black Louis Yovetieh E. H. Ebersviller, Sr. Jam€~s Southworth
Ray Horning Lyle Jones
Minutes of the last regular m~e-~ing were read. Motion was made by
Black and seconded by Jones that the minutes be approved as read. Motion carried.
Minutes of the special meeting of August 7th wire read. Motion was
made by B1.ack and seconded b~ Ebersviller that the minutes be approved as read. Motion earr~~d.
Minutes of the special meeting o.~ August 12th were read. Motion was
made b~~ Southworth and seconded by Ebersviller that the minutes be approved as
read. Mo~ion carried.
This baing the time and place as advertized for the open~~g of bids
on a new Aceount~n~gMachine, the Clerk was instructed to open and read the bide
as they appeared which she did as follows:

County Sanitarian~s report for July way read. Motion was made by
Ebersviller and seconded by Southworth that the report b~ approved. Motion
carried.
~i~y Cl~.rkts Trial Balance way presented. Motion was made by Blaek and gecond~el by Eber~viller that the report be approved. Motion carried.
Wi17:iam,R~inhart, County Sanitarian, employed by thy; City of T,aurel,
at ~~0.00 per month would like to elect to be covered under the Public Employes
Retirement System. It would post the City X1.90 a month. He would like to go
back and pick up the bal~.nce due since he started to work for the City. ~hi~ would amount to approximately ~7Q.00 for ~-.he City. He would be put on the
payroll. after discussion, Ebersviller made a motion to this effect, Jon~~
seconded and the motion carried.
A letter of resignation was read from Dr. D. q. Nottingham, resignirr~
~'re~m the Zoning Board of Adjustment. After discussion, Yovetich made the T110~1OY1 teat his resignation be rejected. Black seconded and the motion carried. The
Mayor added he would call a meeting of the Council a.nd the Zoning Board early next
creek to iron out any problems.
Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Yovetieh reported that the weeds in the drs.in ditch are bad and should
be sprayed:.
Yovetich reported the gutter in the alley an 6th Avenue on nth Sheet
is standing full of water and i5 starting to smell.
Yovetich reported when it r~~.ns the water runs down First Avenue and he thought something should b€~ done to drain the water.
Yovetich re~ort~d he had complaints that a stock truck is being parked
in the re~idental district. pity Attorney aided this is in violation of our
ordinance.
Yovetich reported he ~Y~~aug~t the College students working for the ~i.ty
should be given a bonus at tY~e end of the year. This will b~ discussed at the
next meeting in September.
Black r end a letter from the Billings Gh~ber of Commerce on v~h.icle
tax legislation. After discussion,, Ebersviller made the motion that Blaek attend a m~e~ting on this subject Fridays August 23, 1968, representing the City
of Laurel. Jones seconded and the motion carried.
Southworth reported that the Ordinance licensing Lawyers, Barbers and
Beauty ~Jperators had been defeated. Our license ordinance will be turned over to
the Chamber of Co~nmer.°ce for them to come up with a fair and workable ordinance.
Br~.dley reported he had a Vo7.. Fireman address him wanting to know
if the City would pay far damages to his car when he was in an accident answering
a fire call. Bradley stated he checked with the insurance company and they told
h?m the Firemen are not covered under cur present po~.icy and if the Council wishes
then to be, it would call for a new policy. Black will take this matter -Go the Firs Meting Au~u.st 21.
The Mayor s~Cated he had check~;d with the Highway ~epartm~n~ as to
painting the cross walk signs on ~'i.rst Avenue for the school. The Highway Dept.
stated it was up to the bounty to do so and the County would probably coMfreant
the City with the job, however; the Mayor added the Highway ?ept. will chECk
into the matter.
The l~a~or stated that 1st Avenue at nth and 6th Streets would have to
be torn up when the weather is suitable because the street is soft.
Thy Mayor stated that the stop light on 1st Avenue may not be repairable
and if not we might have to go to over head lights.
Fbersvill~r reported he had met with the .Auxiliary Police and they
r~~uested ~1.2~ an hour for extra duty on week-ends with the regular Folice Dept.
The Polies Committee twill work further on the matter.
There being na further business to come before the Council at this time motion w~.s duly made and seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
