R21-65 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL REQUESTING THE MAYOR AND CITY STAFF REVIEW THE EXISTING ANIMAL REGULATIONS AND PROPOSE AN AMENDMENT TO THE EXISTING REGULATIONS TO ALLOW PERSONS TO OWN CHICKENS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. WHEREAS, the City Council was approached by members of the public who requested the City consider modifying its ordinance to allow citizens residing within city limits to own chickens for the production of fresh eggs similar to other cities and towns in Montana; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Staff would like direction from the City Council to determine if there is sufficient interest by the Council in the referenced ordinance change to allow chicken ownership within city limits prior to dedicating substantial staff time and effort to the project. NOW, -THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Laurel that the Mayor and Staff are requested to research the matter and bring back a proposed amendment to the City Ordinance which would allow chicken ownership within the city limits for the Council's consideration and presentation to the public.
