Olson at 7:30 P.M. o'clock on Tue$day September 16, 19~?9. Upon taking roll aa11 the .following aldermen answ~r~d present Roy Horning Lyle Jflnes Walt Parker John Beslanwitch Lour Yovetich They minutes of the previous m~etin~ of September 2 were read, Motion was m~,d~ by~ ~eslanwiteh and seconded by Horning that the minutes II b~ approved. Motion carried. A letter from Claude Wafters, Deputy State Examiner, announcing his retirement was read. i,', A lettEr s~Gating that CY~ue~ Rogers was elected to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department August 20th wag read.. Motion was made bar Beslan~riteh and seconded by Parker that this appointment b~ approved. Motion carried. Letters from. Mike Mansfield and Lee Metcalf aclmowled~ing the receipts of our application for a hi~;hwa~r safety project grant ~o- asp ~t. with the Emer~eney Medical Service project were read. The City Clerk's cash r~port~ Gity Clerk's tr~:al balance, & City Treasurers financial report were pr~s~nted for approval. Motion way ~I made by Beslanwitch and seconded by Jones that these reports b~ approved. ~ Motion carried. A letter to the Council was read as follows: 'i Honorable Mayor and City Councils Please accept my resi~n~.tion City Treasurer as of September ~0, 19E~9, for Gary and I are expecting a, bat~~r thy: first part of December. I wish to thank you for the kindness and consideration you have shown m~ during the list three years. It was su~~ested to try a one way a11~y for a few weeks as a trial period. After much discussion this issue way turned over to the polio committee, Chief of Polies, Gaston, and Bradley for further c~ns~.deration. Rohr Horning asked. when the hump was doing to be but at 7th ave., and. 2nd Street. Daley stated that there w~;re four ;positions in which the hump co».ld be p~a.t. Horning to ask the peonTe where-they want it. Ly1~ Jones reported on the cros~w~,l.ks on 1st Ave. He sated that the paint was warn and that you could no longer see them. Daley said that fresh paint woixld be put on. Jones also asked if they would put the pedestrian crossing sins back up. Walt Parker stated that the ordinance to restore the streets & alleys in the same manner b~f ors they wer€~ worked on should be ready by the next me~:ting. Louie Yovetieh reported on a letter that he received from Sandy Herzog stating that the people living on T~aurmac Lane wanted a fire h~rdrant. She said there were too many new homes in the area that were in dander with only the one hydrant. Daley said even though this way out of the city limit there should be a hydrant installed. After much diseus~ion the matter wa.s referred to the water committee for further action. Yov~tic;h also reported that the people: on Laurmae Lane wanted the grater to ~o over the road because there was too much dint. - - - ~ T-,~T Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Daley asked the council what he sh~aulel do to char the slush-i.ce problem at the river. Daley urged the council to take action on this I~ before the w3.nter ma~th~,s~t in. I Mayor Olson reported on action talon at the recent meeting; o~ ~ 'the Municipal Lea~;u~ of Cities and ~,Towris. .A study made by a group of student I~a.T,uyers and aceoun-tants in Missoula are setting up a book j concerning ~h~ problems of the municipalities. This book should be availably by the lst of the gear. I Laurel's share of tk~e gasoline tax should b~ about ~1q,~00 per year w3.th more to be spent for street maintenance. At least $7, 00 of that amount is to b~ spent far street maintenance instead of the proposed 1~. of the total ~novnt received. Mr. Goodall from the B.O.R. said that our swimming pool-was in sad shape. A71 the equipment at the pool is about 2~ years old, and ' badly d~teriarated.
