A rep~ular meeting of the City council of -L-he City of Laurel, Montana,
c was held in the Co~ulcil Chamber, and was c~l_led. to order by Mayor Kenneth E. k Olson, a.t 7:30 o'clock, p.M,, on `Cu~sd.ay, A?~ril 20, 1.971.

Letter was read from the l~illin:~s Chamber of. Commerce re~ardin~ the
h R ailnax.
Letter was read teat was sent from the City Council to the Montana congressmen. The Ma~ror then stated that we should try to het the Chamber of
Commerce, and the to~,~rn.s~eoplP behind this. petitions were ma.d.e un in the Clerk's
office, and ?~,_~t on the cauntRr.
A Mrs. AyrPS ~~-geared before the Council to request employment for
her daunhter Donielle far the sur~nPr. She wa.s injured a.t the Laurel Swimming Pool list s~_zmmer. She also stated. that the family has asked the Red Cross in
4' Bil.linus not to certify R.andjr N~etcalf for lzfe sa_vin.n, and also that they
had req,aested the Stag not to certify Randy _f or life saving a.ny place in the
State ~f T~!ont~na. j
Ald.~rman Rodgers asked the Counc~..l's permission to use the name o.f the City of Laurel for. the J.C.'s proposed sa]_e of Honey Rears, the proceeds j
to ~e used for remodelin¢ Riverside Hall. Motion was made by H~bersviller and
sea~nded ry Jones that ~a~rmission t~~ granted, lotion carriedo I

nn one seemed to know too much about this.

radio opPrat~rs to ans~rer the Cashmore phone on the very few ~CC~S10riS whin
tYaere was no one at the Funeral Home or their residence. This matter turned
over to the ~aolice committee and the Chief off' police. Motion was made to this effect by ~ersviller and seconded ba~~3esl~nwitch. Motion carried.

M~.yor Olson st?ted th~.t th.e evening marked the end of -t,en .years of
service to the City and said that he h.a.d. real unified co~ancils to work with while he was Mayor. He stated that he had. ~articu.larly warm feelings for the
l` a~~?~intPd ~rficials end department hems. He said that a. race horse was n~
food Ta~_thout its jockey. tie commended. all City employees and s~.id that he
knew they had to take a. lot of abuse from the bublic. With those remarks
hP gassed the ~a.vel to l°~a.yor-elect Yovet~_ch, who called on City Clerk to ~r~sent
~ n-.~.vor Olson with a €~ift o_f. a camera from the aldermen, appointed officials, end o, f~_ce orce a.nd a. lift of camera ~ Pqui~m~nt carr~ n~ case w1.th additional
film, flash cares end other necessaries. The Mayor-elect said that the Council
Chambers looked different from the Mayor's chair.
Since there was no further business to come before the council at
~ this ~~ssion, motion was d?al~r made and ~PCOnd.ed that the meeting? be adjourned until Monda~T Pjrenin~;, May 3rd at 7:3~ ~'clnck p.M. when the net~.rly-elected
~fficia.ls will be sworn ~i.n, ta.ke office, ~.nd the new Mayor will make his
